Peoples' opinions will differ, but mine is that you should match the amount of saturated fat and cholesterol with your level of physical activity. Whole milk has a reputation for being unhealthy, because most people are overweight and inactive. However, if you are exercising enough, then your body will put the "bad" saturated fat to good use. Exercise is the key.

On an unrelated note, try organic milk. It tastes better and lasts longer.

Raw Whole Milk if you have access to it. In some state's it's either super expensive like $10 a gallon or illegal. It's illegal in my state so you can't buy it.

Your seconded best option is grass fed organic milk.

Humans are not really even supposed to be drinking milk so when you do drink it make sure you get the healthiest option available. Cheap non-organic milk is fine for cooking however.

LOL maybe you should get in touch with the millions of mothers all over the planet currently feeding their human children milk and let them know they're harming their children.
Milk is the perfect food for a growing mammal. That's why nature invented it....

Anyway, you should drink whole milk over 1% etc. as the extra fat helps slow down the digestion of the carbs present in the milk therefore making it less likely to be stored as fat.
Nature makes milk that way for a very good reason. Any processing/refining you do to food generally makes it more unhealthy with a higher chance that the nutritional energy will stored as fat.

the protein content alone makes it the ideal workout recovery food. personally i think the whole "milk is bad" thoery/rumor was started by those who have something to gain from people actually believing that horsesh**:

nutritional suppliment companies and the doctors/pharmacists/grocers who recieve kickbacks and retail revenues.

these people are in the business of MAKING MONEY not HELPING YOU, and how many of us are truly "lactose intolerant"??

Pasteurization is done for a reason.

Maxtro: You should do some research on milk bro. The skinny on it is this: pasteurization kills the beneficial bacteria in the milk making it effectively "dead" for all intents and purposes.

Raw milk not only tastes better, its healthier as well. It gets a bad rap because people think "illness" when they hear the word "raw." Its not raw, its unadultered whole milk, the way it was meant to be consumed.

Furthermore when you get into the fact that regular pasteurized milk is coming from cows who are feds grains (not their natural diet), which then changes the ph of their stomach into an acidic environment, its easy to see why farmers need antibiotics for these sick animals. Furthermore, the sanitary conditions of traditions milk farms is atrocious! Cows stand in their own feces, sick cows can easily spread disease and the worst part is many of the hormones and antibiotics get into the milk (in small amounts) when these cows are slaughtered.

Raw milk comes from cows who are fed grass (their natural diet), is high in healthy omega 3s and has loads of beneficial bacteria that can help heal your gut and fight of disease/infection.

Pasteurization started way back in the day when health and sanitary regulations were much different and disease was spread easily.

Lastly I think what Boxer was trying to say was Cow's Milk was not intended for human consumption. Not saying I fully agree with that, but he has a point.

If the farm or establishment is clean, there is no issues.

Maxtro did you you know people who have lactose intolerance issues can drink raw milk fine, yet only have issues with paesturized dairy products?

Hmmm ponder that one for a sec and yes I do have studies/concrete evidence to back them up upon request, if you dare step into a debate with me.

Raw milk still holds all the beneficial bacteria, one can find a listed example of this beneficial bacteria after they are added back into those pricey pasteurized greek yogurts, once the dairy milk is pasteurized.

Interesting stuff about raw milk. I wasn't aware that the living conditions of the cows are one of the causes for needing pasteurization.

I guess the question now is how much does it cost per gallon? If it's too much then there just isn't any point.

Neon Owl. Sorry for coming off unclear. Human milk is made for children 6 and under. There comes a point in a child's life when their body functions change and no longer require milk. Cows milk was intended for calf's. Not 35 year old men. This being said I am still a big consumer of milk. Why? God damn it I love the taste!!!!!! Nothing beats naturally raised grass fed cow milk. If only I could get my hands on raw milk. To bad it's illegal in my state.

Sorry but that's not a case of clear thinking. Using the same system of thinking, describe what foods are intended for adult humans.

Really. So the animals and plants only grew so we can eat them, or what? Please provide some logical basis for your statement.

Yes it kills bacteria and other critters. But if the cow is healthy, there should be very little risk. Also, I hate sanitized food. Living in a bubble weakens the immune system over time.

We are omnivores, like bears, monkeys, etc. And we eat what grows. Animals, plants, fruits, veggies.

Alright so remember taking a biology class in high school? Maybe even college? Lets think back a little bit. I know this might be difficult. Do you remember this thing called the food chain, maybe even the energy pyramid? Basically we have producers and consumers. Plants have the ability to produce their own food using nutrients from the soil, water, and photosynthesis (converting sun into energy) One of the role's of producers are to feed the primary consumers. Then we have the secondary consumers and then the tertiary consumers. We are omnivorous tertiary consumers. What does this mean? We eat anything. 1st, 2nd and even tertiary consumers plus the producers. So yes in a way plants and animals grow to feed us. This is how life just works.

Now what about milk? Lets look away from domestication. Do you think a wild cattle is going to let you suck it's nipples? Hell no. The fact that this cattle is producing milk means she has a reason to, to feed her calf. No one else. Sometime in a calfss life their body changes. Their stomachs and metabolism are changing to breakdown grass not milk. They stop drinking their mothers milk and start to eat grass. It's the same thing for humans. After a while we stop sucking on our mothers tits and start putting real food into our mouths.

You know I thought things like this were common sense. Then again I almost can't blame you. Everyday we hear that milk is good for us. It's easy to believe when you hear this everyday.

Research has shown that soy products have an effect on testosterone levels in men.

* Large consumptions of soy milk feminize men
* Large consumption of soy foods is associated with a one third reduction in sperm count
* Large consumption of tofu is associated with a doubling of dementia in older people

just google it.
