I'm not really into hip hop, more into dance/ drum 'n' bass, but the songs that i do like from that genre, i REALLY like.

I'm not talking bout the current **** with the *****es dancing around in the videos, but the old skool artists that make music for their genuine passion of it, not for the money.

Personally, for me, it would have to be:

DJ Jazzy Jeff - For Da Love Of Da Game http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhrMk8I3zwk

Will Smith - Summer time

B.I.G. - Sky's the Limit

I consider them rappers but here goes, they define rap for me in their own ways, I'll also add in things you should check out from them, because they are some of the best hiphop and rap albums ever.

Lupe, Mos Def, Jedi Mind Tricks (said above)

Blu & Exile (Below the Heavens album)
Immortal Technique (Revolutionary Vol. 1 & 2 album)
Papoose (Law Library, basically a series of songs, I think there are 6 parts now...you need to cop these off mixtapes)
Cannibus (pretty much everything of his, haha)
*Common (Finding Forever album)
*Nas (It Was Written album)
Ice Cube (song: Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It)
Jurassic 5 (their albums)
Wu-Tang Clan (36 Chambers)
Eminem (Marshall Mathers EP & The Eminem Show)

Kool Keith aka Dr. Octagon aka Del tha Funkee Homosapien aka Black Elvis.

I love "Summertime" by DJ Jazzy Jeff/Fresh Prince. Man, I used to rock that jam way back in the day when I first got my driver's license.

Adjust the bass, and let the Alpine blast

What a great jam that was!

Edit: I forgot J5. Charlie Tuna's the duck's nuts.

Nas, Jay-z, 2pac, Outkast, Common, and maybe Wu-Tang and Dr. Dre. Lupe is the future and carrying the torch for all those guys. Kanye is really mainstream, but he has a lot of potential.

Nas' Illmatic is probably the definer for me. The weird thing is, I didn't start to liking it until I was older. I thought it was overrated until I got a little bit older.

you're basically asking who our favorite rappers are

my favorite rapper of all time is Ras Kass
favorite group since 98 is People Under the Stairs
favorite album of all time is Nas - Illmatic

I'm from LA so I love those LA crews that revolutionized hiphop over here - Freestyle Fellowship, Pharcyde, the rest of the Project Blowdians, plus I also grew up on G-Funk so that sound is nostalgia for me
