Yea which is more important. Lets take an environment where social proof/status is big - school (HS or college). Which guy would have more success. A really good looking/muscular/whatever guy that got chicks checking him out, with no social status at all - known as a loner maybe, only a few friends, not life of party kind of guy, maybe quiet at times. Or a ugly guy that doesn't really ever turn heads, girls don't notice him, just by looks, but with a alot of friends, life of the party kind of guy, well known, and social.

The guy with social status to answer your question, women are attracted to good-looking men because of the social status they assume you bring with it. Many women will drop a good-looking guy once they find out he has no social status or anything else to offer.

It depends on the culture. Looks are only important at the start but if you are a loser, you can forget about keeping a 10. The key here is that good looking people usually have every other attribute women find attractive. Confidence, social status, ****y, playful etc... except for maybe witty and intelligence.

Social Status is very important to women but its harder to demonstrate. If you cannot create attraction (playful teasing, chemistry connection, manlyness), then Social Status is worthless. Life of the party can quickly be Clown of the party. However, social proof will make her interested in who you are and what you bring to the table. You just have to make sure you keep her interested.

So in a nutshell, if you are a good looking guy it is much easier. I feel its more important if you are born with it. If you are not a good looking guy but have social proof, then you have your work cut out for you. Becoming well groomed, playful and acting confidently will work wonders for you but you have much more work than the good looking guy who most likely naturally gained these attributes.

If you don't pass her looks criteria, all the 'social status' in the world means absolutely nothing.

It depends on what kind of social status you're on about. If you're on about being in some super cool social group with a ton of hot girls then yes it's a big advantage. But most people just have some regular friends and go out sometimes, so therefore looks/game etc. tend to matter more. It also depends on the uni you go to etc. If there are frats and whatnot and american-pie style partying then you'd probably be expected to take part, else it's anti-social = loser. But at an academic uni like Harvard/MIT etc. there aren't really 'it crowds' and 'super cool cliques' so it's different.

I think in HS, looks and social status ARE mutually exclusive. You don't tend to find one, without the other.

Outside......I'd say social status.
