I am finding that, for example if I eat 50 gms of solid protein, e.g. tuna, chicken etc consistently.. versus if I switch that to 50 gms of whey protein some days, the solid protein that I have seems to be much more beneficial in building my muscle.

I get the feeling that I am not using the whey effectively and I am not really absorbing as much protein when I am drinking whey versus when I am eating actual food.

Are others seeing the same thing?

Nothing to do with ineffective whey absorption mate, just simply that solid food has better anabolic qualities than whey drinks.

The effort required by your body to break down and process solid food is much greater than the effort required to process whey, since it's by design a fast- and easily-digestable protein source.

To quote DC, eating solid protein in large amounts turns you into a 'human blast furnace' which is as anabolic as all hell.

Keep whey PWO or where you're really pressed for time, eat solidly the rest of the time.

What's the effect of eating solid food along with a whey drink? Will the whey mixed with the other food slow things down?

Drinking along with eating slows down digestion in general.

If you drink the shake before it'll get digested quickly as it's the first thing in your belly, if you sip it with the meal then it'll get slowed down.

But if you're eating solid food, absorption shouldn't be an issue. If you want fast-absorbing stuff, you've got whey and liquid carbs.

I have to agree with Warboss here.

Whey is great pre and post workout, but other than that, I prefer to eat plenty of "real" food.
I cant get enough of tuna, chicken, turkey and lean beef.
