Im a guy whos trying to gain weight at the gym.

and got some questions about whey.

last i heard if youre trying to gain, then 1g =1lb of body weight.
I weigh 135lb, so that means i should be having a 135g protein intake (or more) daily, correct?

Normally i drink 1 scoop & of whey and cup of milk before i head out to work. And usually i hit the gym after work.

I know whey is easily absorbed by the body, but would it be a waste by drinking it so many hrs before workout? or it wouldnt matter, as protein intake accumulates in the body...?

and usually after workout i drink a cup of milk, and sometimes with whey.

yes, whey is more effective post workout. however, the milk is still good as you are giving your body some food after a workout to use to get rid of some of the fatique. you can still keep drinking the whey though as it isnt a waste because when you are working out, your muscles will still be sore days later so the whey still goes to the muscles even though its needed more post workout.

For bulking up 1 - 1.5 x your body weight for protein divided by how many times you plan on eatting in a day. I've read that having more than 50g of protein in one sitting is a waste, also having more than 30g in one serving is a waste if you drink it with water; so instead use milk as it will be retained in your body longer and not flushed as easily as with water.

Right after workouts you want to drink a protein shake that contains milk as this is the time your muscles start absorbing protein the most.

Whey early in the morning is a good idea. Your body uses so much protein through night during muscle repair, you need to get protein ASAP when you wake up.

Whey post workout, but must incluee high GI carbs to replace depleted glycocegen stores. I like to use a meal replacement post workout, with skimmed milk. Your body absorbs liquid at a quicker rate, and you have a 30-60 minute window of oppurtuinty to get the right type of nutrients into your muscles.

Other than that, there is no substitute for real food.
