Sorry for this inconvenience. My computer accidentally cut off a pportion of my title. It was:

When You Get Bigger, You Don't Seem to Notice it As Much As Others?

Have other people here on the forum noticed this? That when you've been lifting weights consistently for a little while, you personally don't seem to notice as much of a big difference in your body as others do. That's what happened to me. I know my body has changed, but many times when I look at myself, I still don't think I have changed that much physically. It's others who tell me that I've become bigger:

"Man, you're really getting big...I can tell from your back, your biceps," etc., my older brother said several months ago.

"I remember when you used to be such a skinny guy," a friend of mine said to me last month when I ran into him at a club.

But the aspect of it I enjoyed the most was that seeing that supposed change seemed to motivate some of them to want to get a guest pass from me so that I could show them a few things at my gym.

Yeah, I can relate to that. People are always referring to me as big and muscular, I get a lot of comments about my neck, chest and legs especially, but I just don't think I look that big.

I did some night loading over Christmas. It was tough manual work and there were a lot of hard guys, but somehow I got nominated as the top dog. I've never viewed myself like that, yet all the guys there would say to each other like "you think you're tough, but could you take on Jariel" and tell me, "I'd hate to cross you on a bad day" and I got respect from everyone. It was pretty awesome actually, but also kinda hard for me to comprehend.

You see yourself in the mirror everyday, anywhere from one-ten times a day depending on your habits. You see everything everyone else does but more often=doesn't stand out as much. Just continue lifting and everything and you will be cool.

Good Luck!

Yeah my ex remarked how big my shoulders got during sex one day, and i thought, "whoa, really?"

My softball team said some stuff when I hadn't seen them for 6 months when I first walked up to start the new season.

My roommate said, "i don't see why you care so much; you're already pretty big." I feel like a runt!

It's pretty cool even though i can barely tell if there's any difference. All i see is the bit of a gut i built by doing some things wrong for a while. :(

oh nos - body dysmorphia!

Interesting post

I set myself a challenge at the start of the month that I wouldn't look in a mirror for exactly one month, exception is a shaving mirror of course. The gym I'm at now doesn't have wall mirrors(i know, wtf), so it's all good.

I probably won't make it, but hey, it sounded like a good idea to me.

At my old gym I used to see all these guys walking right up to the mirror and flexing, checking out their face, picking pimples and stuff, basically ego stroking, and I found it pretty disturbing. Well I'm at day 9 now so all is well so far.

Wow! I've never seen that go on at a gym before.

You're too small to know what you're talking about. Put on some weight feather weight, and maybe people wouldn't push you around.

Funny how true this is. I saw an old friend from high-school at the bar during the UFC fight, and they asked if I was taking steroids. But if you ask me, I have a weak chest, toothpick arms, and the legs of a fruit fly.
