Ok guys, I'm down for the count with a bad cold or flu.

What have you found to be the best rememdy for relieving cold/flu symptoms?

NyQuill used to be my drug of choice but they took out some key ingredients and it now officially sucks.

So does anyone have a remedy they swear by?

Tons of water, fresh fruit and any extra strength cold medicine with Ephedra in it does the trick.

A bit of whiskey can help, too, if you're feeling miserable but need to be social/functional. (not for work or anything like that, but in settings where drinks are appropriate.)

I play music and sing professionally, and whenever I get a cold/flu that just beats my ass, I get a good buzz on so I can at least get through the gig. Buzzed is sometimes better than just being "out of it" and sick. Be warned, the hangover will hurt more, though.

And sleep as much as possible.

chug water like there's no tomorrow and cold medicine would be my best bet. Either way whatever you choose drink lots and lots of water. flush it out of your system and stay hydrated.

I had a pretty rough cold a last week. I drank Alkaseltzer during the day and Theraflu cold at night. I managed to make it to work everyday and still got better in a few days.

I don't think there's any medicine in the states with Ephedra in it, if I'm not mistaken. NyQuill used to work wonders, but they took out all the stuff that worked and now it doesn't do squat. It's not even the same medicine it was a couple years ago...literally worthless.

Thera flu... now that might be worth a try. Thanks guys. I seem to be in the worst of it right now. Interesting that my thirst has gone down to zero, so I'll need to force myself.

I dont take any over the counter drugs at all. Whenever I start getting sick I just transition to raw foods and do lots of juicing (making sure there is lots of ginger and/or garlic in there). Ginger/Lemon Rind tea also works very well. For achy joints and congestion a steaming hot epsom salt bath with some tiger balm on the chest is just what the doctor ordered. I also take shots of wheat grass with echinacea and do my best to stay hydrated and rest as much as possible.

FWIW, I've never been sick for more than two days in my life. I can usually knock a full-blown flu right out of my system within 24 hours. Haven't popped a pill in many years

I went with the cold formula. It was drousy formula so I got to bed before 10 so my 6am wake up wasn't painful. I think the good rest and hydrated medicine plus more water during the day really worked out pretty well.

My way of getting rid of a cold is to take a shot of Vodka to get myself hacking up all the mucus/flem and then drink 2 glasses of Orange Juice with pulp in it.

In my experience the juice goes down better if I have no mucus tickling my throat but the vodka isn't necessary to those that cant drink legally nor like booze at all as you could just cough it all up.

I also take hot showers to help. The steam clears up the sinuses in my experience along with making me feel clean by opening up my pores to get rid of that sick smell you get when you have the flu.

Do not be too easy. If you are too easy to get, she will not want you. If you are too easy to keep, she will lose interest in you. If you are too easy to control, she will not respect you.

For future reference, Bronkaid and Primatene (either the Mist inhaler or tablets) are both behind the counter drugs you can buy without a prescription in just about any US drug store (I know CVS carries them). They contain Ephedrine as the active ingredient. Ephedrine isn't banned as a drug ingredient, it's just banned for use as a weight loss supplement. Though, I'm not sure that it would really help with a cold/influenza. It's more for thick sinus congestion and astma.

Zicam actually works very well against colds, but only if you start it within 24 hours of the onset of symptoms.

I agree. Drink ginger tea. I do it as well.

Better than taking nasty pharmaceutical chemicals.

Also get your vitamins and supplements. Drink chicken soup.

TBH I eat lots of avocado's, I know they're healthy, but I don't think I've ever heard of them being used as a remedy specifically for colds, unlike chicken soup and ginger tea.
