I recently read a article on skinnyguy.net that if your lifting heavy to gain muscle and weight you need to get at least 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight. I'm around 175 pounds so I need 175 grams of protein... that's SOOOO MUCH everyday. I usually eat meat for lunch and dinner which equals about 50 grams, I read that milk, butter, bread and pasta are bad in another thread. So how am I suppose to get the additional 125 grams of protein??? Do I need to eat 20 eggs a day or eat 4 chickens? I'm so confused any advice would be appreciated.

1g per lb of bodyweight isn't enough IMHO, try to go for 1.5g's at least. Eat between 6-8 meals a day spread out over every 2.5-3 hours. Yes it is hard at the start to eat that much food but your body/metabolism/appetite will adjust to it within 2-3 weeks.

175g of protein isn't as large as you think. I can get close to 50g of protein in one meal. Start by going through some of the things mentioned by and see if you can piece together a recipe. It's all about your mindset. If you think it's a lot, then it will seem like a lot come meal time.

Also, about protein drinks..
They often have about 20-25g of protein per scoop. One or two of those a day and you've doubled your current protein intake.

Tips:
Eggs for breakfast
Tuna with peanut butter as a snack during the day
Have some kind of meat in every meal during the day
Protein shakes after workouts
6-8 Medium sized meals a day (you shouldn't get gut busting full, but just you should be able to feel satisfied)

Keep all those in your diet plan, and 175g is nothing.

**The thread you read about milk, butter and grains being bad, was probably the paleo diet. They're not so much 'bad' as 'unnatural' for our bodies to be consuming.

Here's my meal plan if you're interested. Each meal is separated by about 2 and a half hours. Don't forget the gallon of water every day.

1- 6 egg whites
oatmeal
4 turkey bacon slices

2- midmorning protein shake

3- slice of whole wheat bread piled with turkey breast
slice of avocado for taste
salad with fatfree oil dressing

4-small skinless baked potatoe or sweet potatoe
midafternoon protein shake

5- afterworkout shake
half hour later, piece of lean meat
large helping of vegetables

6- 2 spoons of natural peanut butter
bedtime protein shake

Keeps me in very good shape, though I am on a cutting program. Take it easy.

Do it the way your idol gets his. Fire a guys' hot man chowder down his gullet. He eats his with oyster crackers.

Just be careful not to overuse protein shakes. Remember your body has to process all that protein and the one organ that will take the brunt of that is your kidneys. I recommend not exceeding more than 40g of protein powder in a day as not to over work those kidneys...remember 'use' the protein but don't 'abuse' it!

Do you have any real source for this information or did your dad's mom's nephew's cousin's friend who once went to the gym tell you that?

It's nonsense unless you don't drink enough water or already have a kidney problem.

I was going to say, protein shakes have never had any claims on being tough on the kidneys. This was brand new and very hard to believe information.

Protein is protein.

except for soy... that stuff is ****.

Protein shakes get their protein in the form of whey which comes from the cheese making process (milk -> cheese).

Why would it be any different in a shake than from the source? Its the same stuff mixed with a little color and in powdered form.
