5 day split, with cardio activities on the side.

I use whey protien after a workout, that is my only real suppliment. From the most part, they are just that; suppliments. The real gains are in eating, sleeping, and staying healthy.

Julian, you may want to try making your own weight gainer instead of buying the premade crap.

Get a 5 lb tub of optimum whey, peanut butter, honey and milk. Two scoops whey, a few tbs of PB, some amount of honey, and then 10-12 oz milk to throw it down.

Sounds like you are on the right track.

You could do as Fender suggests to save the pennies so you don't have to get a separate whey and gainer. Nothing wrong with premade gainers if you do decide to take one too though.

The bars are very handy when you just can't throw some food or even a shake together.

I use Whey Isolate post workout, a gainer/meal replacement as and when I fancy, glutamine 2-3 times per day, bars on hand if needed and in a few days I am starting a new creatine product of which I have just gotten a load in. I like Tribex 500 from time to time also.

The guys above make excellent points about food and sleep by the way. They, along with training, are the most important facors.

Supplements and most effective routines

I'm using LOTS of whey protein isolate (Biopure and Isopure),

carb powder, to which I add a bit of potassium chloride for elecrolyte balance

lots of Vitamin C , mostly as powder buffered with calcium and magnesium

B-complex

balanced multivitamin & mineral supplementation (no iron supplements)

essential fatty acids

creatine on workout days

glucosamine & chondroitin sulfate

essential fatty acids (typically wheat germ and flax oils).

I've just started using arginine alpha-ketoglutarate (A-AK), called "NO2". It appears to be working GREAT. I've put on 3 pounds in the last 3 days since starting it.

My most effective training regimen consists of about 10 exercises (full-body), done with heavy weights (mostly 1-4 reps) for 2 or 3 sets, plus a lighter 8-12 rep circuit, ONE day per WEEK.

I've gone from about 160 to 180 lbs training for about 6 months of the last year using this regimen.

I'm currently using:

Optimum Whey Protein
AST Multi Vitamins
Creatine

That's all. No need to get anything other than this, really. You'll save lots of money by not buying useless stuff.
