What openers do you usually use?

Other than "HI"

how do you start the conversation, and when you do use "HI........" what do you follow up the high with?

If you ca remember any examples of openers that worked well that would be great

really often i use situation.
commenting on something happening around us, if i need an information etc.

the 'hi' opener, i dont have a great experience with that, so i cant tell you how to take it further.
and BTW i'm looking for it too cause i wanna use it ! :)

Anything open-ended, as long as it's not deemed societally offensive.

If she's in class, ask her how she finds it or the lecturer. if it's at work, ask her how long she's been there. if it's in the gym, ask her how often she goes there.

Agreed!

Context clues are often the easiest ways to initiate a conversation. Observe the environment, and ask an open-ended question about it. No need for anything fancy, though if you are the witty/funny type, that works very well too, especially if you can make 'em laugh....
