If its true then its pretty impressive but not impossible. The USA bench press record for 165lb body weight class is 480lb for example see this link

Congratulations on beating the current bench press world record for your class by 38lb (assuming you can drop the 2lb to get into the 90kg division - not that it really matters because you've also broken the 100kg class record by 23lb. In fact you've even beaten the 110kg class record by 5lb).

So was I (or at least I was attempting to - why does everyone take me seriously when I try to be sarcastic?) For wheeling I was pointing out that in order to bench 600lb at a 200lb body weight he would have to be a world record holder. It is very unlikely that if wheelin&dealin could do that that he wouldn't have officially competed and got his amazing strength officially recognised. In other words I was calling him a bull**** artist but in a very polite manner.

On the other hand Amorican23's claim is vaguely plausable. Though it would be impressive there are people who can bench twice their body weight for real. The owner of my current gym (a previous Mr Canada many years ago) claims he once did 400lb at 200lb body weight. As I pointed out there is (or was) at least one 165lb guy out there who could do 480lb. In fact with a bench of only 340lb Amorican23 would still be out of the running for medals in the 165lb class at national level power lifting competitions.

It is entirely plausable that I may yet increase my bench from 370lb to 400lb (or more) and as I'm now probably about 25% fat level if I were to drop my body weight to 5% fat then I could be benching 400lb at 205lb and I too would be benching twice my body weight so I know from my own experience that it is possible to bench twice your own body weight. I'll admit I too am skeptical of Amorican23's claim but for all I know it could be true.

He said he weighed 165 and his best bench was 340. Doesnt mean he was only 165 when he did that particular bench. He could have been more. My best was about 340 but i was 210 at the time. I'm lighter now and obviously not as strong.

I've seen some small guys put up some relatively big benches.

My best (relative) bench is 315 at a weight of 165. My then training partner was roughly the same weight and put up 340. My best absolute bench is 330 but I weighed about 190 when I did that. But, my pound for pound best is 315 I believe.

I've also seen a guy at 160 put up 350. This guy was pretty skinny and the entire gym would just stop and watch him bench. He was just built for benching somehow although I swear he didn't look very big. I'm being generous with giving him a weight of 160.

I know of other amazing benches but it's been awhile now and I couldn't accurately tell you numbers. I've seen guys who were not super-huge bench about 450, but I don't know how much they weighed.

Sometimes a heavy bench, in my view and from what I've seen, has a lot to do simply with how someone's joints and tie-ins are constructed, short muscle strength, and the like. In short, they are strong. They may not have the most massive chest pound for pound, however.

Sorry for all the confusion... I haven't tested my max in a while.

I went to the gym yesterday and put up 715 lbs for 3 reps, then left. My max is probably 800+.
