Men, what is your body fat percentage?

Note: you should have used a scale or other official method to measure, do not just estimate as most of us underestimate by 5% (especially if you are over 35).

According to my Tanita scale, the ideal bodyfat percentage for men is in the 9% to 21% range (around 15%-16%), depending on age (younger being on the thinner end). Body fat percentage relates to Metabolic age (how efficient your metabolism is). 15% body fat for a 42 year old man corresponds to a metabolic age of 20, while 21% corresponds to a metabolic age of 40. Young women (the best measurement device of all) will note the difference, with her interest level being inversely proportional.

I'm between 11-13% depending on what type of program I am on. Going into a winter bulking phase, so might go up a percent or so before going back down to hopefully single digits by this spring...have upper 2 sets of abs visible, working on lower 2 sets....

I'm 37, 5' 8" and 189 lbs...

Measured with Fat Track Gold II calipers.

Those scales are grossly inaccurate for people with a lot of muscle...

People should actually get their fat properly tested. Assuming or using a worthless scale fat detector will either make you think you're ideal or will make you think you are fatter then what you are particularly if you hAve self image issues.

Right now my BF% levels are in that 10% to 14% range. I have good lean mass on me and at a good level if i want to shred up with six pack and obliques showing, which i plan to do in few months. Very low BF% levels are hard to maintain (7% and lower) for me at least. unless im going to compete in a show, i think 9% - 13% is a good range, again IMO. I can tell if im gaining fat in my face, I have a defined jaw line and when my BF levels are low it shows well.

189 lbs is huge for 5'8. Are you a linebacker or something?

BTW i am currently 182 pounds at 6' tall but i like to be in the 175 area.

I suppose about 12-15%, I have a defined jaw line and can see my upper 2 abs while cannot pinch any skin on legs, the only visibile fat I see is right down the belly button but from a profile perspective looks flat.

I found out that moving all carbs in the first half of the day and no carbs at all after 6pm, made me leaner even without restricting the calories, probably because of different hormones setting.

I'm 182 at 5'9". Got a little fat on me right now as I'm bulking to build some muscle. Going for a cut next year.

the 5-9% BF is interesting... not necessarily where some 'unnaturally thing' guys fall though.. they are usually 'thin fat' or 'skinny fat'.. meaning they are super thin... but not a lot of lean mass (muscle) so they are actually close to 15-20% BF but still really thin sometimes*

*not all the time

Given that the resulting numbers look like an NFL team, I'm thinking people are exagerating how lean they are. Either that or the average SS member is in 5 times better shape than the average American male.

Or could it be that with 246 views and only 33 votes, the fattest 213 members didn't vote?

I dont feel like I look buff but **** man.

this stupid machine said I have some fat on me. what people may call fat ass, I call thoroughbred racehorse haunches.

I think less than body fat percentage, girls are attracted to overall volume and space a man takes up, up to a certain point, that point being looking unhealthy fat.

There are sprinters with a BF percentage lower than 10%. They're still healthy. Mine is somewhere around 10, but I'd probably look better with a bit more fat.

When I played football I was at my lowest, 6.5% bf. We used this thing that we just called the pod. You go in and sit down and after a bit you get a reading on your %. I wouldn't say any of us were unnaturally thin or anything like that. I've lost a lot of weight since playing, most of it muscle. I technically "look" thinner than when I played in both my face and body, but probably am more in the 10% range now.

Are you ripped? At 10% you should have a six pack. At 6.5 you should have had almost no room to pinch on any part of your body.

Pro athletes depending on which sport come under 10%. BF is not their goal it's sports and performance based but people like Manny Pacman and Floyd Mayweather are at 6% and they are shredded to the core.

Think again if you don't have bulging abs and claim to be 6%
