It amazes me that I can lift weights but as soon as I mow the freaking lawn push mow and after I am through I am stiffer than a dead dog on the size of the road. I have been using several joint health supplements that seem to be working good and giving them time but today in my lower back when I went to get up I had pain that almost took me to my knees until I regained my balance.

This seems to come and go but it is always after I mow and never never after I workout with weights.

What the hell is this it's bumming me out and I fear something is badly wrong with my spine or something or I should do more stretching.

Any insight.

If it's a push mower, then make sure you have good posture(straight spine), and that you're pushing with your shoulders/upper back.

I have two acres of lawn to cut every week, and I know what you mean. Pushing around a 70lb piece of machinery is tiring, but make sure that you're using primarily your legs/upperback/chest. The motion should be walking+benchpress type appearance.

Or...

Get a tractor mower :)

Mine is just under an acre and it's a self propelled but one of those Toro personal pace types but the acre isn't the most level either and I go non stop until the tank is empty and then refill it about 3 hours then I am done so I get a good cardio is the reason I don't get on the rider.

Anyway, I will watch my posture it seems I am not in the benchpress type appearance your talking about and has resulted in strain on my lower back explaining why I am so freaking stiff afterward.

sounds like you're leaning into it, which is the sort of posture such machines encourage, especially for someone taller than average (like, say, most guys).

imagine standing straight up against a wall, and then leaning forward a few degrees, and trying to hold that position a while. a recipe for exactly the sort of pain you describe.

It's definitely a sign that something goes wrong at a certain point. Keeping your spine neutral is a start, but it's not a guarantee for a healthy lower back.

I urge you to do glute activation work. If your glutes aren't up to par with your lower back/hamstrings, you'll have lower back problems. "Sleeping" glutes are common, the result is an overactive lower back/hamstrings. This can lead to lower back pain/hamstring pain.

Oh cool this is almost like sled pulling. If it's hard that just means you need to keep doing it until it's not. Kill the weakness! ... with proper posture blah blah.

I am definitely tall 6-2 6-3 and this happens every time I mow or after and I feel this is what I am doing leaning into the mower.

My glutes though feel hard or muscular as I do the Stifflegged Deadlifts and go deep on Squats I would think that would activate those boogers but maybe not enough but I will look into the glute exercises Stronglifts and see what happens but I get up this morning and feel like a million bucks it's wierd just wierd but makes alot of sense though putting it all together in what is causing this.

It's not about if the glutes get hard when dong sldl/deep squats (they obviously wil), it's about how much work they perform compared to the lower back/hamstrings.

In an efficient system, the glutes should do most of the work (they are one of the strongest muscles, center of force in your body). However in most "cases" they are not up to par with the lower back/hamstrings, which therefore need to do more work.

Blame it on sedentary lifestyles.
