Hi. I hear people take taurine. Just wondering what it is. Does it help in muscle/strength building, or is it like a vitamin?

THANKS!

Nothing wrong with learning, but I believe you need go over the basics of nutrition before you delve into supplementation

Whatever it is, I am very fond of the energy drinks that contain it.

Basically it's like caffeine. But has a STRONGER effect. taurus = bull, so that's where redbull's brand name comes from.

See?

At least that was what I knew about it: 5X stronger than caffeine.
Well any wikipedia article can describe it much better than I could ever do.

Taurine is an amino acid (tho technically it's not, IIRC, for chemistry reasons), and its purpose in training is similar to that of creatine - volumize muscle cells by causing more water to be drawn into them, thus making them stronger. Its mechanism is also very similar to creatine's, and they both make good supplements, especially when stacked together. The volumizing effect which makes you a bit stronger (thus enabling you to lift more weight) also gives you a good pump

i.e. 6g creatine ethyl ester per day, 15g taurine per day.
3g creatine pre-workout, 3g creatine post-workout. 5g taurine pre-workout, 5g taurine post-workout, 5g taurine any other time (before bed is good, as taurine helps relax you :))

On non-workout days, just space the doses out sensibly :)

BTW, taurine and creatine are pretty cheap online. If you're in the UK, try myprotein.co.uk, that's where I get mine from, it's really cheap ;)
