Senior Don Juan
"When I look around, I always learn something, and that is to always be yourself, express yourself, to have faith in yourself. Do not go out and look for a successful personality and duplicate him. They always copy mannerism; they never start from the root of their being: that is, how can I be me?" - Bruce Lee
Genuine Coolness- Coolness from within.
I now know that this is the only way to be truly cool. It does not mean being popular, being well known and having a lot of external stuff. True coolness is how you feel with yourself, doing things on your own terms and not giving a damn what people really think of you and feeling pretty damn good about it. In a way I devote the rest of my life to studying, learning and experiencing this concept. - Genuine Coolness. Which means a cool state of mind and lifestyle. Well, I've learned a lot knowledge and intelligent wise, but experiencing and applying what I have learned. I've got a long ways to go. I know I've got to experience and learn this stuff first hand, reading and just taking down notes is nothing but mental masturbation. But hell, I'm glad I have the right mindset toward this, but I know I've got to experience this stuff first hand and find out what works for me. I also learned that being Genuine Cool means you've got to be cool with your life and everything around you. That is be thankful for what you have and be thankful for where you are now in life. When I first started the quest of self improvement, I kept wishing that I was this or I was living in this or that, I wished that I was popular and all that crap. And you know what, after opening up and putting some more effort to be social, I did get popular, since I'm probably the only Filipino dude in my school, ( which made me really stand out.)I didn't have to try so hard. Hell, I'm probably known as that " cool filipino dude", as my social life expanded, so did peer pressures as well and then it hits me, I became a freaking people pleaser. I became popular alright, but I still was NOT happy. Then I remember that quote from the book - " Don't Sweat the Small Stuff"," wherever you go, there you are". It means to stop wishing you were this and that or were in or that in life and learn to be a more generally happy person and be thankful for what you have. This one was a big one for me, here I am 19 yrs old, already over thinking life. I believe it's great to have goals and cool to accomplish them and all, but you've got to ENJOY the Journey as well as accomplishing something you know. So these are the first lessons I learned with Genuine Coolness which is probably going to evolve over time as I learn more: Be Independent and Be happy where you are and stop mental masturbating and analyzing life, instead experience and learn it.
I'm fascinated with this stuff, w/ being Genuinely Cool so if you guys got a different insight on this, feel free and express yourself.
