What first? Cut or Bulk?

Well, which one? Muscle metabolizes fat, so it would aid in the process of losing weight when you decide to cut later. But I keep hearing people say you should cut first! What's your opinion?

I personally a bit chubby. But I'm asking this just as a general question for all the forum readers, however fat or skinny they may be.

Whatever works, you said you're chubby, so I'll picture a chubby that should go for cutting.

Ok, youre chubby. So here are your options:

1) cut: this way you dont have to worry so much about your diet. You dont have any muscle to begin with, so you dont have to worry about losing it. You can also use this period to learn about diet and training. Once you are done cutting, you can bulk & cut effectively.

2) bulk: this way you are adding muscle, but you are also adding fat. Once you are done bulking, you will have to cut the fat that you gained while bulking plus the fat you had initially. Also, you have to actually pay attention while cutting, otherwise you will lose heaps of hard-earned muscle.

That's my take. If you have any good reasons to bulk first, please post them.
