What do you think of this schedule?

I am trying to bulk-up.

Day One: Chest and Shoulders
Day Two: Arms
Day Three: Back and Abs
Day Four: Legs

And then maybe one or two break days after day four and then return to day one. I was thinking maybe split it only two or three ways though. What are your thoughts? I want to try to work out 4-5 days a week if possible. Is it unhealthy to work out 6 days a week? I want to get serious with this stuff. I've been doing it for a year now (not this schedule but a 2-way split schedule instead) and have definitely gotten some good results so far, but want to gain size faster. Thanks!

Personally, I like to knockout chest and tris on the same day. If I were you, I would break it into a 3 day split. This way your workouts are more effective and you don't have to go to the gym as much.

Example routine:

mon. back, bis

wed. chest, tris

fri. legs, shoulders

This is the routine that I have found most effective. You definitely don't want to workout back the day before legs. Your back needs more time to rest before doing squats etc.

If your results were good on your 2way split, why on earth would you change it to an unproductive 4-5 day split?

There are very few people that could tolerate a 4-5day split and i really doubt your one of them (this is not meant as an insult either i know guys 270+ training twice a week). MOST guys do best on a 2day a week lifting program, 3 day a week programs are good if you can recover, i'd say start with a 2 day and see how that works.

Anyways for you, get the idea out of your head that you need to do a lot of stuff to get serious and speed up the process.

Post up the 2 way split that you made progress on and post up your diet information.

What about the abs?
I don't really work abs that much, but they would probably be best on chest/tri day.

I've found that 2 day splits require too much time and energy on the respective days. It is best to keep your workouts short and explosive, hince a 3 day split. But hey, whatever works for you, man.

I agree with you. A 3 day split would work out pretty good. But I also agree that a 4 day split would be too much. So how about:

Day One: Back/Bis
Day Two: Chest/Tris/Abs
Day Three: Legs, Shoulders
[Break for two days.]
[Repeat]

Each workout is approximately one hour. After each workout, I drink a large protein shake. I personally use GNC's Max XXX protein powder. I also take 2 GNC multivitamins every morning. I try to keep my stomach full after each meal too. Especially the meal after the workout. Usually I'll eat something like spaghetti or chicken (or some other kind of meat). This summer alone I have gained about 10 pounds. I am now at 140 pounds but I still really need to get the ball rolling. It's only the beginning!

What's wrong with doing three in a row (different muscle groups each time) and then taking two days off?

Your muscles do not grow while you're working out. They grow when you're resting. Your body needs time to recuperate.

Mon.

Tues. rest

Wed.

Thurs. rest

Fri.

Sat. rest

Sun. rest

But they're all different muscle groups. One is resting while another is being worked out.
No. You're body needs as much energy as possible for those muscles to recover.

We've given you the correct advice, follow it or don't.

Amen to that.

Your body need the rest between each workout. If you do your back and Bi workout your body needs that time to recover instead of jumping into a chest and tri workout then still not having time to recover before juming into a big leg and shoulder workout. Take a day of rest between each workout, don't sabatoge yourself man.
