I'm away from college for three or four months now. During my time there I've eaten really crap foods and drank quite a lot. I'm now waying just under 200lbs. That is too much for me, despite me being a little bit over 6 foot.

So has anyone else achieved good weight loss? I'd like to lose about 20 to 30 pounds before next semester start in September.

Additionally, for those who have had fluctuations in weight, do you find being a bit fitter a slight, moderate, or major advantage in the field?

If you're a bit over 6ft and weigh just under 200lbs, the weight isn't too bad... my guess is that it's fat at the minute tho'

My suggestion, join a gym... have a quick look in the Health and Fitness forum here, there's two sticky topics... one for bulking up and the other for toning...

My memory of them is sketchy now, but you've bulked up in a way so now you can get to turning that fat into muscle by readin through the toning topic...

Dude you can't turn fat into muscle. That's like turning straw into gold, lol.

Anyways, turning fat into muscle is a myth that arises from the steady progress beginning bodybuilders often see. A clean diet and a strict weight lifting regimen is such a shock to the system that fat is lost at the same time as muscle is gained. Give it a whirl and see if it works for you. However, if you're already an experienced trainer, you're going to have to choose one or the other. I'd start by losing some fat to look good for the summer, then try gaining that weight back in the form of muscle once beach season is over.

My mistake then... it does mention in one of those threads tho' about how to go about turnin' fat into muscle... so it's not direct, but it can be done by doing certain exercises first

I just forgot to mention the stage inbetween the 2 threads given the time and my lack of fat, lol...

You can't turn fat into muscle but you can lose the fat and then get muscle. I'm doing both losing fat and getting muscle and yes, its working. I'm starting to see a little bit of definition in the muscles and my weight is definitely increasing but meanwhile I'm losing weight while drinking a gallon of water a day so I'm losing some fat pretty quickly.

DIESEL has a thread in the health and fitness section about cutting up, which I recommend you read because if you want to lose weight, do so. He recommends cutting up before getting buff and I agree with that.

Body weight has nothing to do with how good or bad your body looks.

Take all of the importance you see on body weight, and place it on your body fat percentage. Instead of looking to lose a few pounds, try to lower your body fat a few percentage points. This will actually mean real results and a better looking body.
