I ate sandwiches, yes basically nothing but sandwiches. You get some light bread, (De A something italian is my fave) Some lunch meat,Turkey, Ham, Roast beef etc., use common sense bologna or sausage is not good, all the lettuce, tomatoes, onions, other veg. you want, some Fat free Mayo, Honey Mustard, Reg. Mustard and start making them. I didn't read about this diet I was just looking originally for something quick to eat/portable/decent tasting.

A sandwich with 3 pieces of Lunch Meat (75-90 cal) 2 pieces of light bread (80 cal) some veggies (maybe 10-20 cal) and mustard/fat free mayo (0-20 cal) has 165-210 calories. You can basically eat 10 of these a day and still lose weight. I am a bigger guy 6' 2" the type who played football as a DT, I would have a hard time eating that many. Eventually you do get sick of it, Which causes you to even eat less. Some people who have followed this can cheat once in awhile and some can't the taste of different food makes you crave it. For anything to drink keep it to Water, Diet Pop, and maybe milk (1% or skim)

You need some excercise. I had a fairly active job and got into mountain biking. You do need excercise, find something you like to do or you won't stick with it. Currently me and some friends play basketball. You can even lift a little on this diet since it is high protein.

Now to be fair I am not a guru as I went from warehouse work to computer work and really let myself go awhile over a 5 year period. I got all the way back to 330 :( and went back on this diet. I re-started it 5 weeks ago or so. I am now at 305. Some of you may say thats a lot and I would agree, but like I said I am naturally a bigger guy. When I got below 250 relatives and friends started counceling me to quit losing weight. This may not work for everyone, but it worked for me and a few others.

Please don't tell me you ate only Subway sandwiches, Jared. J/k!!! No, seriously- I lost 50lbs riding a mountain bike for 9 months. I bought a really expensive, 19lb Cannondale bike(to ensure I will ride it!).....and there is nothing I can eat to gain all the weight back. The fat is flying off me at a rate of 1-2lbs /week. Climbing hills is a major calorie-burner, on a MTB. For the first time in my life.....I have abs. Actually- we all do.....

Good work! Can't say anything bad about it since it's working for you clearly. How come you gained weight back though?

Bodyfat lose is all about calorie expenditure(metabolism + activity) being greater than calorie consumption(food).

Now I can't really say much since you obviously had good success on that diet, but it didn't appear that healthy to me...

Bread is all carbs, carbs is just a fancy way to say sugar. Sugar spikes insulin and blocks fat burn.
Lunch meat(prepackaged, deli meat, etc) is crammed full of nitrates and nitrites, MSGs, and other bad boys.
And as I understand, you were going Low fat.

This seems to be your intake:

225g protein 50%
200g carb 45%
25g fat 5%

High Protein, High Carb, Low Fat diets tend to turn the dieter into a yoyo, since you're spiking your insulin often with the bread. Eating more dietary fat would be a direction you should consider taking this time around, to perhaps lose more fat in a more stable and healthier way.

this is what many people experience success with:

250g protein
100g fat
0-50g carb

Sources like fatty fish(salmon, mackerel, sardines), whole eggs, red meat, virgin olive oil/butter/lard/coconut oil. Those are great foods for losing body fat while retaining muscle. The high fat is far healthier for the dieter, as it keeps hormones stable and keeps your thyroid and metabolism running smoothly. The low carb part will keep your body in 'fat-utilization' mode and most of your daily energy will come from bodyfat rather than the carbs.

Diet soda is just as bad as regular, so if I were you I'd keep intake to a minimum and perhaps use it as a reward here and there.

I'd avoid the fat-free mayo, the fat is replaced with sugars and other chemicals to give it the same thick texture. However it seems to be the only tasty thing in there so if its working for you then... :Dmm your making me hungry with the talk about honey mustard.

On to activity.. The basketball is great, all forms of exercise are great. However I'd try to implement some consistent strength training in there as well, since I fear that some of your weight loss is coming from muscle catabolism rather than body fat. Strength training will send the signal to your body to 'hold on' to muscle. Use it or Lose it, that is the simplest way of describing how the body treats muscle.

Out of curiosity, why are your friends telling you to stop losing weight at 250lbs?

fukk. i clicked on this hoping it was a thread about how to get from 235 to 350.

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

As for the carbs the key is "Light Bread" I am at work now so I can't look at the bag but it's 80 cals for 2 slices and I think it's 5g of protein then fiber so it's only like a max of 15 carbs for 2 slices X10 thats at most 150 a day or so. Now I did lose maybe a little muscle mass but not much. I think the high protein helped. I also seen a picture of me standing next to these 2 sisters the other day from right after and I looked good, not flabby or muscle less. People started talking after 250 because I am just plain and simply a bigger guy, my chest (No not boobs :) ) is pretty large. I seen someone say they could bench 215 and legrpress like 300+ blah blah, I can do that now off the bat easily and haven't worked out in the weightroom in awhile. My problem isn't gaining muscle it's getting the fat off the muscle I have. BTW I did this diet like I said at least 5 years ago or more, it was before Jerrod was famous, and screw subway too spendy. I will agree it isn't a very balanced diet and definately recommend a multi-vitamin and maybe throwing in an orange or something here and there. Any other questions let me know

I'd just like to add....

Don't use white bread...

Go with a multi grain organic wheat....

Seriously.. This will lower that Insulin spike mentioned by quicksliver severely.

I mean if we're gonna tweak the diet.

I would also drop the packaged lunch meats, In fact I'd drop all pork completely.

I used to chow through fresh Broclli Tilapia salmon and CHICKEN BREAST!

I still make my sandwiches with boneless skinless chicken breast Lettuce tomato and a dab of ranch.
I'll even just eat straight up chicken for daaays.

I would have to agree with HalfAddict/Quicksilver on the chicken breasts being friggin tasty. But I disagree on the whole grain thing. It sounds good in theory but those breads commonly tend to be 80-120 calories a slice (160-240 cal's a sandwich). That starts making this diet non-feasable. Now that I'm home, I looked at the bag (D'Italiano light italian bread) It's 80 calories for 2 slices, so half or less then normal bread. Then you look at while it does have 18 carbohydrates it also has 4 grams of fiber and 4 grams of protein. Even if it has faster burning carbs it has a lot less too. There is similar Nutrition on most "Light bread" But double check. You can get whole wheat light too and kinda get the best of both worlds.

I also would consider after looking at packages. The Turkey lunchmeat 60 cals for 3 slices add on another 20 for sauce or whatever. And it's 160 calories total. If you eat 10 of those with the light you can only eat 5-6 2/3 with whole wheat. Heck personally i'd rather throw on a slice of 2% cheese (50 cal) and still save the 30-110 cal's and you are definately saving on the glycemic index.
