You should've said something like "Behave yourself, or you'll get a time out", or "don't use that tone with me young lady, choose another one." Anything that basically says lighten up.
She thought you were dead serious. You wounded her pride, so she responded with feigned indifference. There was nothing wrong with your line, I've used it myself. But your delivery should have been playful.
