A dumb question, no doubt, as I have washed my hair all my life..(duh)

But, I have this dandruff, and it WONT FULLY GO AWAY. I have had dandruff for a long time now, it was covered up pretty well, as I had longer hair, but now I have almost a fully shaved head, and it is a bit visible.

I have started using a new shampoo(it has a coal tar extract), and it has worked quite well, but it has not eliminated my problem.

I think I am washing my hair wrong, or something. I rinse my hair with lukewarm water, put the shampoo in my hand, put all the shampoo on my head, then use my fingertips to massage it into my scalp. Then, I let it just sit for like 5-7 minutes, and then rinse it under cold water for like a minute, not using my hands at all to rinse it, just the water.

Please, if anyone has any ideas, or needs more info., ask or give me advice. I am primarily interested in techniques for washing my hair. I will be checking constantly for the next 45 mins., then going to shower hopefully! Please, anyone!

Why do you let it sit for so long? Unless your shampoo has special instructions, I dont think you should leave it on your hair and scalp so long.. In fact that might even be what's causign the dandruff because shampoo's are on the have a pH rating above neutral, and can irritate your scalp, causing a condition that looks a lot like dandruff but really isnt.

I'm using a cheap shampoo right now and it does dry my scalp out. So, I started washing it every other day. Seems to look ok...

1- Buy Head and shoulders dandruff shampoo for dry scalp. For the first week or so, your gonna have A LOT of dandruff, but thats just getting all the hidden dandruff out. Wash your hair daily with that shampoo and you should be fine in a week are so.

2- After the dandruff is gone, only wash your hair once every other day and condition it too. You might have to use a shower cap so you can still take a shower daily.

3- If u ever stop using this shampoo, things will be normal for a few weeks, but then after that your back to the old dandruff u had!

easy, and I don't even have dandruff. Buy Nizoral shampoo leave on five minutes rinse repeat. Everyday for a week then every other day after that. Afterwards your scalp will be dry so you put a couple drops of either jojoba or emu oil on your scalp problem solved.

It's probably not your technique that's the problem. If it's really that bad, you may want to see a dermatologist.

I used to get dandruff all the time. It was like I was in a perpetual snow storm. I found out, in my case, that it was actually caused by me being stressed out all the time. Since I've learned to relax and take better care of myself in general, my dandruff has completely disappeared.
