Me and couple friends (aged 19, 22, 25) are thinking about going to Manhattan on a trip this summer.

None of us have ever been. I don't understand all the NYC culture, like the Upper West side/east side and what all those mean.

some questions:

1) What part of Manhattan is ideal for us guys to stay in?

2) What's there to do there?

3) Are there ghetto parts in Manhattan too?

4) Are the clubs really "posh"?

Anything else you can tell me will be appreciated. Thanks.

"What are you looking at? Watch where you're going!"

1) What part of Manhattan is ideal for us guys to stay in?

Nowhere, the living expenditure is high, everything cost so much. If money isn't a problem, try:

2) What's there to do there?

Truth be told, nothing. I have a friend who moved from NY to Alabama, he said all the states are just like NY, they (generally) have everything that NY have.

3) Are there ghetto parts in Manhattan too?

Yes.

4) Are the clubs really "posh"?

If by posh you mean people who dress ghetto and call that style (think Eminem/50 Cent), then yes. Otherwise, some.

Anything else you can tell me will be appreciated. Thanks.

Save your money. Travel to Europe or Asia. NY isn't worth your time.

You will not have the fun you might expect to have there. NYC is not what it's cracked up to be. If I were you, I'd go to miami, southbeach. What's there to do in NYC? go to central park, take the subway, pay $2 for a slice of pizza that's worth $1.25 else where. Same deal with the females, females that are 7's in miami are considered 9 or 10's over there in NYC.

I agree with the above poster.

New York City is the capital of the world my friends. The girls are hot and there is an endless amount of fun to be had, all hours of the day and night.

19, 22, 25 should be able to have some fun in the city. If 19 looks a little bit older, he should be able to get into bars and get served at most restaurants. A lot of clubs check IDs but there are certainly some that admit under 21 on some nights. Clubplanet is a good website to search for bars and clubs that cater to your specific needs and desires. There are other websites as well but the search features on that one are pretty good.

1) What part of Manhattan is ideal for us guys to stay in?

Wherever you get the best deal. Shop around for reservations online. No matter where you are in the city, you can get around easily via subway. Two dollars gets you to anywhere. If you're in a particular hurry and want to spend extra money, take a cab. I guess the rule of thumb is to find a bunch of places where you'll end up spending time and then trying to find a hotel that's either not too far from them or only a handful of subway stops away. If you're going to be doing lots of stuff below the park, then stay below the park.

2) What's there to do there?

Everything. Central park, zoos, aquarium, museums, live music, broadway, all kinds of restaurants, bars, clubs, tall buildings, great architecture, touristy stuff like Times Square, really cool neighborhoods... look online. New York has EVERYTHING. Seriously. And the bars are open until 4.

3) Are there ghetto parts in Manhattan too?

Despite its reputation, the city is a lot safer than it was a decade ago. Common sense will keep you out of trouble no matter where you are. There are some rough patches here and there, but for the most part I see a lot of young people walking around at night when I'm downtown. I seldom go above 90th so I'm not as familiar with that part of the city yet. When in doubt, stay with the crowd and trust your intuition. It's a busy place. Lots of lights. Lots of people.

4) Are the clubs really "posh"?

Huge variety. There seem to be thousands of "clubs" in the city. Some have long lines and entertain celebrities. Others are dives full of college kids. I'm not big into the club scene but that website I mentioned can help you out. Lots of great bars and lounges.

Find a good map of the city that divides lower Manhattan (probably where you want to stay) into sections like upper east side, east village, grenwhich village, etc. Then look for stuff to do and places to visit and sort of plot them on the map. Can't really tell you what to do. Depends on what you're interested in.

Peace and Quiet

If you currently have too many women chasing you, calling you, harassing you, knocking on your door at 2 o'clock in the morning... then I have the simple solution for you.

Just read my free ebook 22 Rules for Massive Success With Women and do the opposite of what I recommend.

This will quickly drive all women away from you.

And you will be able to relax and to live your life in peace and quiet.

Re: Re: Vacation in NYC... questions

As a response to the hatin'

You shouldn't have to spend a fortune on a hotel room. I've gotten deals for about eighty bucks a night (2 of us). A hundred is realistic.

Whoever says there's nothing to do in Manhattan would pretty much be bored anywhere. There are actually very few things you can't do in Manhattan. I've lived near farms, on the outskirts of other "major" cities, and in the suburbs. Every place has its strengths but when it comes to "having stuff to do," I'd tip the hat towards Manhattan.

As far as ghettos... Most of the places in the city that tourist flock to are safe. Wherever there is a crowd that you can blend in with, you are pretty safe.

There are lots of hiphop bars and clubs in the city because that's what people like. You'll find similiar clubs in other cities. What distinguishes New York from all of those other places is that you also have scenes within the city that cater to other tastes. You like country? You can find live country. Jazz? Are you kidding? Rock? Industrial/goth? Electronica? And that's just dance clubs.

People who badmouth NY are people who tell you the glass is half empty; the sort of people who look forward to telling their children that Santa Claus doesn't exist. The city is one hell of a great place to have fun in. Think of something you'd like to do or see and you will see it in New York.
