Any of you watch "Rescue Me" last night? Denis Leary's character, Tommy Gavin, as fukked up in the head as he may be, kicks serious ass. He's all messed up mentally by his family, goes into a bar, convinces the bartender to basically give him a bottle of whiskey, downs the sh1t, gives a speech about 911 and gets the whole bar listening to him. This chick gets all turned on and tries to talk to him and he says, "Don't even think about it. This is more bad boy than you'll ever be able to handle.", and fukking leaves her ass sitting there. Best quote I've ever heard. I was in awe, and even my girlfriend was like "Damn, that was hot!"

Dennis Leary 's.

His character in Suicide Kings was a smooth pimp, too.

Stingray boots? Busket?

Ooh, and the part when he gets in the house and starts telling the kids how sh!t's gonna go down...

"I don't put MY gun down."

Alpha.

Yeah, it's called acting. It's on tv, it's not real.

Nobody rattled your chain, asshat. Stop hijacking my thread. Apparently you've never seen his standup and documentaries. He talks endlessly about the feminization of America.

Ignorant posters are abound on this site.

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

Certain actors are cast into roles and are given a certain amount of freedom within the role because of who they are in real life.

Take for example Robert DeNiro, Clint Eastwood, Samuel L. Jackson, Al Pacino, or George Carlin.

In Dogma, do you think Brad Pitt would have played the part "right"? No. George Carlin has had a history of mocking the Catholic church because of his upbringing in the Catholic church, so his character in Dogma was a natural relation.

Do you think George Clooney would have done Samuel Jackson's part in Pulp Fiction any justice?

Would Johnny Depp have pulled off DeNiro's part in Taxi Driver?

Could Pauly Shore take the place of Clint Eastwood in any of his films?

So, based on your logic, you are telling us all that Arnold Schwartzenegger or Chris Farley could do what Al Pacino did in Scarface without any problem?

Did it ever occur to you that some roles are written with certain actors in mind? That is, T.V. shows and Films are written around who an actor is in real life and only the story line is ficticious?

Believe what you want.

LOL.

I agree!

It is like Brad Pitt characters (which I personally like most of them as I consider them "Alpha")...and Brad Pitt real life (AFC following Angelina Jodie all over Africa).

I agree. That's the case of Samuel L. Jackson and Pulp Fiction.

He's acting ... I've read up on Leary, he ain't like his portrayal. Like people gushing over John Wayne, who attended all those poofy Hollywood parties and was never on a horse or at a ranch if it wasn't in a movie.

People need to learn the difference between fact and fiction ... it ain't that confusing.

*Sigh*

Yes, I understand it's acting. Just as stand-up comedians "act" and just as any Hollywood actor as a "public face" and a "private face". It's that person's "act" that we are talking about. Dennis Leary might like it in the butt and be a complete wuss in real life, but his act isn't, and that's what we meant. Ozzy Osbourne has pets that he hasn't bitten the heads off of, I understand the difference between fact and fiction.

So, let me rephrase what speed is getting at:

"The person that Dennis Leary portrays on the TV show is Alpha."

There, is everyone happy?

Wait, wtf are you guys arguing for... speed did originally spell out the difference.

Actually I hope real life does matter. The quicker dumb-a$$ Americans quit looking to Dennis Leery or Snoop Mutt for help, shut off their freaking TVs, and become real people, the better off we'll be.

AFCness, violent people, dysfunctional people, losers, phonies, idiots, etc., ... I'd say about 50 percent or more of these learned these traits from their families; the others learned these traits from AMERICAN SOCIETY AND TELEVISION.

Don't ever take advice from movie stars, comedians, or rock stars. Develop your own brain and thoughts.

Greg Brady would be my role model if TV was my best friend. He was tall (at least on TV), had sexy eyes, was a football stud, could sing, and had a really cool cousin in Oliver. Too bad he was given ugly girlfriends. Back in the 70s there were still some pretty decent looking American girls. Too bad he never got any.

OK LET ME SPELL IT OUT FOR YOU.....

It's nice to see a TV show that doesn't castrate men, ok?

He's fked up, a drunk, and has mental problems, but I love watching that show.

the line was.... "this is too much bad boy.... go date a drummer or something"

that whole bar room speech was too crybaby for my liking...

I love that it's fking men busting each others balls, fking women, fking up, and just living life. In real life when you bust balls some skinny kid get a gun and goes all columbine on you. We are a nation of p-----ies

Not to completely knock the original post... but Denis Leary's character in that show is not exactly happy. It's pretty tough using him as a role model.

I agree, some anonymous poster on sosuave.net is much more insightful.

Sometimes it's interesting to look at peoples actions, and not the words.

I think positivity and happy-minded characters are defnitely out of style right now in Hollywood.

What's en vogue now is tattoos, dysfunctional backgrounds, and apathy.

The flawed hero has been a constant since the early 90's. People have gotten tired of cookie cutter characters-- Jim is a good guy. Jim always does the right thing. I do think that things have gotten a little out of hand with everyone trying to become their own island...

Since you guys can't distinguish between fiction and real life, does this mean:

Anthony Hopkins is a serial killer?
Tom Hanks is a homosexual?
Jean Reno can travel back in time?
Arnold Swarznegger has magical powers and can shoot fire from his eyes?
