May God forgive me, but I've seen the first two Twilight movies. They've been on cable TV, so I watched them out of curiousity. I mean I kind of put them on in the background while I did bills and stuff, but whatever.

Anyway, a couple of things stood out to me, as relating to discussions we've had here. I'm aware that a female writes these books, so we may be able to see something from them into their world:

First off, Bella (the young heroine) has a lover (Edward the vampire). She also has a good friend (Jacob the werewolf). Notice this:
At one point Jacob proclaims his love for her. She LJBFs him.
Jacob says "Do you want me to stop trying?". She says NO.
Now mind you, this was at a time that Edward had left her, but it still reveals the lie about girls and their "male friends".

Either she is hoping to hook up with him at some point in the future, or she is just using him as an ego boost. Even though she can't or won't give him what he wants.

Secondly, and this is a bit darker, both of these guys are "monsters".
Edward constantly craves her blood and she is always in danger of him ripping open her jugular and feeding.

Jacob has a hair trigger temper because of his werewolf state. We are shown another, older werewolf with a mortal bride. Her face is permanently scarred from where he clawed her in a fit of rage.

I'm not sure what this is all about. Do girls crave danger? Do they want guys who might abuse them? Is it just about dominance, that they want guys who are "supernaturally" more powerful than them? All of the above?

Why Twilight is Popular

This is pretty much all you need to know about Twilight.
That pretty much nails it.

I was thinking much the same thing. That Bella girl is about as interesting as a frigging brick. She has no personality whatsoever. You keep wondering "why are these guys so interested in this chick?". The SoSuave answer would probably be these guys have oneitis because of their insecurities (they probably consider themselves misfits). They are attracted to the first girl who doesn't run from them.

But as the video notes, the real answer is that Bella has no personality because the girls watching are supposed to imagine her as themselves.
I haven't read any of the Twilight series so it was a revelation that there is never a description of how she looks in the books.

A universe...where heartbreak and sadness have bee
When did vampires inter-breed with Keanu Reeves anyway?

They used to be creepy old guys who ran around biting girls' necks and yelling, "blah!". When did they become stylish super-ninjas?

Wow, this is by far the best explanation of why Twilight is so popular.
Man having oneitis over an empty shell woman...

Do not be too easy. If you are too easy to get, she will not want you. If you are too easy to keep, she will lose interest in you. If you are too easy to control, she will not respect you.
