Just think, as soon as you turn your tv on, you see 24/7 commercials on products that the media wants you to buy. No wonder America is the number 1 country that is in debt right now.

TV is truly poison, I rarely watch it anymore. Maybe it is just me but it shows that the powers that be, want you at the bottom, they want you to buy, buy, buy and never sell, sell, sell.

I rarely watch tv, and I'm actually going to stop watching it at all. Since I cut out tv I have accomplished a lot. Doing more reading, cleaned out my closet and attic and made 158 bucks in a garage sell. I know to you guys that is not much, but that feeling made me want to go out more in the world and sell instead of constantly buying like this slave nation is programming you to do from the

TELL-LIE-VISION.

I don't know that I buy that television is the problem, it's just a medium to communicate. But your above statement is hitting on something. Even on a big stage, we are selling sh*t. We aren't developing new things. We are just managing the rest of the world.

There again, cutting off the TV probably cuts down on 85% of the garbage in our head. You may be on to something, but advertising is literally everywhere. That's what Fight Club was all about.

TV is poison and a waste of time. Even the news is filtered and spun in such a way so as to manipulate our tastes and opinions over time.

If anybody is serious about reclaiming their time and identity, the first step is the turn off the tv.

I agree Fatal Lay.. I've been considering getting rid of cable and just having netflix or nothing at all besides the Internet. I barely watch TV as it is and 99% of TV is garbage and brainwashing.

People might ask: "If you don't watch TV, how could you possibly stay informed and keep up with TV shows like Breaking Bad?"

The real question is --> "By watching TV, how could you possibly stay informed?"

TV is not information... it's anti-information disguising itself in a cloak of authority.

In most cases watching TV is an utter waste of your time and brain space. It teaches you nothing and tells you nothing. If you start to believe what you see on the TV as "true" you are headed for a world of delusion and ignorance. Look at what the media did with the debt ceiling and and the fiscal cliff for instance. Got everyone sh!tting their pants over nothing..while the REAL issues are hitten from the public eye. I wonder how many laws were passed while the Trayvon Martin case and the Royal baby were blowing up everyone's TV? Hmmmm....

Most people I know who watch a lot of TV also have very standard beliefs on most issues. Why? Because they let the TV think for them instead of really digging for wisdom and truth.

In reality it goes beyond Television. Today we're "plugged in" to a media machine that was inconceivable in 1961. And much of this media influences us, in ways we are unwilling to admit to. Subliminal messages from social networking sites, blog-sites, comments sections on web pages, newsgroups, and the like, can influence the way we think, act, work, and consume.

Preach it.

"Coming up, Rhianna has green hair !" *Actual words I heard in the background a few weeks ago while my gf was watching TV*

I haven't watched TV in donkeys years, It's almost as if you can feel the brain cells dying from that poisonous sh!t. Even now when mates ask me over to watch the football I can't do it anymore. Ah you mean the bread and circus's to misdirect the beta masses to get behind a non consequential "team"... how about you get behind a team that actually matters to a man you mind wiped zombie.

But of course I just say I'm busy. It's not worth the hassle for those lacking the breadth of mind needed to actually understand where your coming from. And that pretty much sums up TV imho = Those who lack breadth of mind and self awareness.

I'm actually dreading whats going to happen when my boy is old enough to sit in front of the zombie box. How the hell am I going to stop that without coming off like an absolute cvnt? Considering the TV is like an IV drip for 99.9% of the Western population still.

Seriously. Any suggestions? I'm lost on this one.

You essentially upped your VALUE in her eyes by showing her that, if she wants you, she has to at times do things that you like to do. You are SOMETHING after all. You are NOT FREE. If she wants to hang with you, it's going to cost her something — time, effort, money.

I'm thinking about this as well. With the clarity being about the same now, why even mess with cable? Cheaper too (I think). I know the cable companies like to jack up rates for the internet when you don't bundle it together.

Think I'm going to buy an HD antenna and be done with it. ABC, CBS, PBS and NBC at least SEEM to be the LEAST of the biased media. I'd think I could stream any sporting event I wanted over the internet.

I made the mistake of signing up for Directv last winter, not realizing they sneak a two-year contract into your installation agreement form. So a month ago I tried to cancel my service and found out I would have to pay $20 per month prospectively for the rest of my contract. Well played Directv.

I ended up keeping just basic HD cable, but now I'm just going to pay my dues and be done with cable altogether. It's just a platform for advertising and mass stupidity...the same ads over and over and over for months on end. Not to mention 98% of even "educational" shows are dumbed down a middle-school level. It's not worth it for the 2-3 good shows that run each year.

High-quality dramas like Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones can be found for free online if you look in the right places. Internet is a must, IMO. That is your information control center. Also Netflix is ad-free and $8 a month.

Like people said. Stop watching TV, I haven't been watching TV for years. If you like certain shows, get them through the internet.

I'm recently embraced a minimalist lifestyle.... Not quite there yet, but have destroyed at least 50% of the time wasting stuff in my life (the biggest being: cable tv, wired internet, and xbox 360... I still have internet on my phone (at work), and a playstation 2 but they aren't abused as much as wired internet and the 360).

http://mnmlist.com/ is the most basic site on how to ignore the marketing that is constantly in our face. Some very good (and concise) articles on there.

You don't need most of the stuff you buy. You just are sold the idea that you do.

It's basically just classical cynicism philosophy for the modern era (which was surpressed in favor of more idealistic philosophies thousands of years ago).
