I read the posts and it seems most of you are mature guys who will actually give me adivce unlike other forums where they bash my head in with flames for asking what may be dumb questions.

first a little background, Im from Argentina (south america) with Spanish Parents and Italian mother. I lived in canada for 7 years and because of the cold haveing an uber body was never really necesary. With a good enough face and nice personality you could do quite a bit.

Alas I moved to Argentina where the weather is a bit hotter and the skin is shown a lot more. First I got away with not taking it off by makeing up some bull**** like oh after 7years in Canada I cant expose my self to the sun right away hahah, at least it held them off.

But it wont for long so I want to get started and try to get a nice Toned body.

Specs[

Age : 14
Height : 1.79 Cm / 5´ 10.5
Weight : 55.5Kg /122 lbs. I know kinda skinny

----

Aaanyywaayss I think im still too young for weights so I want to start off with things I can do at home, although some of my friends do go to the gym is this healthy???

Bascialy I want more toned:
Biceps
Triceps to tone the arm
Abs
Chest, I know this one is hard but id like something

and if its possible something to tone the back?

..
if needed I could probably get some of the weights you use in one hand, dumbells are they called? but not the double hand ones..barbells I think

THANKS FOR ANY HELPP

rember im 14 lol

When I was your age I did push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups and chest dips.

Ok im gonna make this brief. Go to your local GNC store and pick up some prohormones, some strength hormones, some hydroxycut hardcore, and good test and creatine stack, then your gonna wanna pick up a good 30 gallon bucket of whey.

Ok so after that go to walmart and buy a blender, a big one. Your going to want to consume 400 grams of protein per day at least. And make sure you mix it will all of the above in 6 shakes a day with your 14,000 calories per day.

Sorry im bored. Do what ttye eyes said man and just do some push ups n situps, make concentrate on your eating habits and youll be good.

Edited: Also buying a few dumbells wont hurt ya, but you dont wanna start lifting to much right now, just keep it kinda light. Good luck man

also i was kidding about the supplements stuff just to be clear...

First off, a nice toned body will take time...lots of it.
2nd of all, if you diet right, and you workout right, you'll get the body you want.
3rd - research on excercises and such. Look in the H&F Vault, theres tons of great articles in there.
4th - don't be afriad of weights, they are really good for you. I start when I was 14 too and made alot of mistakes. Do the right research, listen to the guys on this board and it'll save you a bunch of time.

Focus on Squats/Deads/Bench. If I had learned that back when I was 14 I would be pretty big right now. But too bad...

Lots of good information if you look for it. Don't be afraid of weight just because you are young. I wanted to get big at that age too and I'm regretting that I didn't make more of an effort and take it seriously. Weights wont hurt you if you do them correctly so make sure you get someone to show you correct form.

If you don't have access to weights or a gym then start with bodyweight exercises. If you can't get to a gym or get some heavy weights then start with doubles. From there see if you can move up to a barbell or join a gym. Again don't think you can't do it because of your age.

Dumbbells won't be as good as heavy freeweight excercises with a barbell but anything is better than nothing. Honestly just do the best you can. If you want to get bigger the most important thing is to eat a lot more, just make sure you do work out so it doesn't just become fat.

The first thing to realize is that being 'toned' in just havign a low bodyfat, and the only way to get bigger bicepts, triceps etc is to grow as a whole. You need to do leg exercises and most people say squats are the best exercise for gaining size.

Finally listen to all the advice here (but not yep).

Listen the kid hasnt even hit puberty yet, the last thing you want him doing is something like lifting heavy and joining and gym to give him nothing but trouble with his hormones later.

Hes 14 man, jesus christ you dont tell kids to go to a gym... and lift heavy. Thats like the very reason for my thread above, to be sarcastic about this very thing.

If you do anything ever in your life please do NOT go to a gym and start lifting heavy weights right now.

What is wrong with people...

Theres nothing wrong with him lifting weights at his age, all that hormone stuff is a myth. The main thing at his age is people aren't mature enough in a gym and are bound to do some stupid things that'll hurt themselves. If he can be mature enough and start light, theres nothing wrong with him lifting. The only issue is finding a place that'll let him lift.

ook, getting some mixed replies...Im guessing the general I dea is to work a bit without weights untill I feel confortable with them?

I guess I could start doing 3 sets of push ups,sit ups, crunches to maybe get some muscle up and running before moving into the weights section? Also with how much weight should I start off with??

Gym is kinda out of the question for many reasons, but I can get some reasonable dumbells

No gym???

Dang that sucks. The gym would most definately help ALOT.
Try to get a home gym or something. You need to be doing squats/bench/deads for maximum growth.

anyways, just start with light weights, something your comfortable with. Learn the form for the excercises, and your body will adapt and you'll be lifting more and more every week.

Just eat right, do good form while steadily increasing the weight...and you'll be a spartan in no time!

Please don't listen to this.

I define heavy as heavy for the person lifting them. I wouldn't advise anyone to try and lift more than they are capable of. Everyone should start light and work up.

Honestly how does lifting affect your hormones badly at a young age? Please link to some actual research. Get yourself a copy of starting strength and read the last chapter.

As long as your child is using the proper techniques and
lifting an appropriate amount of weight, strength training
shouldn’t have any negative effect on his growth plates, the
layer of cartilage near the end of the bone where most of the
bone growth occurs. Muscle strains are the most common
form of injury, and the lower back is the most commonly
injured area. But these injuries usually happen because the
child hasn’t used the proper lifting technique or is trying to
lift too much weight.
Because your child’s bones, joints and tendons are still
growing and developing, it’s easy to strain or even
permanently damage them. Teach your child to stop
exercising whenever something doesn’t feel right or if he
hears or feels a popping sound when he’s in the middle of a
workout. Have a doctor check him out before he resumes
training. It’s possible he may need to modify his training or
even stop lifting weights for a while to allow the injury to
heal. (See Tip #NF824, “Sports Medicine and Athletic
Injuries.”)
An even more dangerous safety concern for parents as
their child ages should be the potential for experimentation
with sports supplements, including anabolic steroids. Sports
supplements enhance athletic performance by helping usersincrease muscle mass or strength, build stamina or lose
weight. But these drugs, some of which are illegal, can pose
severe risks to a teen’s immediate, and long-term physical
and psychological health. These supplements come in
different forms. They include, but aren’t limited to, vitamins,
drinks, synthetic (man-made) drugs, and hormones, many of
which are available over-the-counter without a prescription
(keep in mind this doesn’t automatically make them safe for
use). Sports supplements aren’t regulated by the FDA, and
no sports supplements have been tested on kids and teens.
That means that scientists and doctors don’t know whether
supplements are safe or effective for teens to use. (See Tip
#NF822, “Sports Supplements.”)
As long as proper form is used, heavy training is supervised and the young person stays away from drugs they should be fine.

Just keep in mine off of my advice here comes from secondhand experience, although it does come from reliable sources. I just wish i was scared to start real weights earlier because of some old wives tales.

Maybe your right, but i stand by what i believe.

I used to see articles written all the time saying it would affect hormonal levels, growth plates, muscle memory, mood when older, have physiological effects, ect.

Why did they change their mind now?

Guess i should have looked at the "new" theories before i said not to lift heavy.

Not two: strength training

The growth and development of children, are first-height, long after weight, but their muscle strength weak, vulnerable fatigue. In other words, physical development mainly to bone growth, muscle growth has not entered the peak period. If this time the child prematurely to load the muscle strength training, muscle First let local children too strong, uniform impact on all parts of the body; Two premature muscle will be developed to stimulate change, the heart and other organs causing a heavier burden; It could also enable local muscle stiffness, loss is often flexibility. Therefore, parents should not allow their kids to adults engaged in the regular practice of primers upward, push-ups, sit-ups and other strength exercises. If muscle strength exercises, a junior, started two grades more appropriate.

This is a quote from some European child health expert that cant speak English worth a ****, but i am pretty sure hes basically saying the muscles are not fully developed and not to strength train, and it has a negative effect on other parts of the body. I just dont think it would be a good idea, but it might not have any negative effects at all.

He says kids can't do sit ups or pushups either. I can't believe that push ups have any bad effects on musles or organs if you do the safely and don't overdo it. Hell that would me sports coaches and physical education around the world would be damaging kids. I really don't think I'm the right person to cover this, but I do believe I am right. For example look at all the younger guys that work at farms, lifting heavy etc. These guys are usually strong and don't end up midgets from doing physical work. According to my understanding if a guy hasn't gone through puberty he might not put on much muscle mass but he will get stronger.

A lot of stuff I found cautioning about lifting weights was for pre-teens. This guy is 14 so he is a teenager not a child. Some of my mates were bigger than my dad at that age. This guy is a teenager, he can lift, as long as he does it safely. Proper form, starting light, not overtraining etc is what is reccomended for safety but this is the safe advice that everyone should follow.

I really think that young guys getting into the habit of working out and eating right is going to make them be FAR better off than if they don't exercise, sit in front of the tv all day and eat crap.
