I'm going traveling for a few months in Australia. Any advice from anyone who has done some traveling. I'm going to mostly be in hostels just wondering how that is going to work.

Australia is a wealthy country with not so hot girls. A terrible combination. Staying in a hostel is the last thing you want to do. Backpackers are the single most annoying thing on this planet.

which city are you visiting?
There are quite a few decent backpacker joints (and tourist pubs) around melbourne. My tip - check out a busy Internet cafe (in backpacker part of town). Desperately needing an email for a meeting one day, I went in and the place was filled with hot tourists. Spoke to an English woman and some cute Germans with poor English.
