For those of you who want an alternative (or additional) exercise to add to your artillery for ultimate mass gain, I reccomend a Trap Bar.

Basically, it's a trapezoid shaped barbell where you stand inside and lift by using side handles. It is just as effective as squats and deadlifts in terms of mass gain because it utilizes as many muscle groups. I have replaced deadlifts with trap bar lifts for two main reasons:

1. The trap bar takes a lot of stress off your lower back and allows you to perform the exercise in a more natural way. Thus if deadlifts ever cause you back pain, consider trap bar deadlifts as a definite alternative.

2. Your shins will not get ripped up or bruised by having the bar slide over them.

Thought I'd let you guys know.

Yes , trap bars are usually a better choice for deadlift. Since it centers the weight around your body rather than putting all the weight on one side of your body.

Nice bit of kit. Tad expensive though for the average DJ (uk anyway).

I always take the opportunity to plug hip belt squats as a mass builder for those who truely have back troubles with squats and deads.
