This may sound stupid but I was wondering if anyone might know the answer to this. I have never lifted weights but have been motivated to start by reading up on it etc... Is 31/32 too old to start weight training?

I have ordered the AE book etc.. and checking out available gym's in the area and am really looking forward to it all as i have motivated myself to do this.

Is age a relative factor in this?

Thanks

In short, no, it's not too old by any stretch of the imagination.

However, being older your metabolism's slowed down somewhat from the hummingbird-esque teenage mode, so you'll have to watch your diet and cardio regime closely to avoid gaining bodyfat.

Your recovery may also have lessened somewhat but is unlikely, you're 30 not 50, heh.

Injuries (if you have any) are a factor as well, they're more likely to flare up.

On the plus side, you've got the maturity and experience behind you to stick to your diet and training, and also to drum up more intensity in your training. (young pups here think they're hardcore, you show 'em how it's done mate!)

Do you have any gym experience at all?

You are never too old.

People in their 60 lift, and have results beyond imagination.

Human body grows fitter as long as it is properely used and maintained. If you lift or do cardio you will be fitter and slimmer then sedentary 25 yr olds - even when you are 50 or more.

Wicked !!

Just got home and my AE book is waiting for me - only took 1.5 weeks from the US - I am impressed. Very interesting reading and I am already engrossed in everything - my only dissapointment is the plastic callipers that don't 'click' audibly but that's a minor.

Thanks for the responses guys, I am sooo ready for something like this in my life right now, I think it is exactly what I need.

Now I just have to prepare a diet which looks pretty easy with the book's descriptions and a proper program.

I hope to begin training in about 3 weeks time, hopefully 2 but I'm having to relocate so that will take some doing first. I'm planning on starting a proper results thread for myself, mainly as an additional motivational tool but also to get any advice or feedback from you guys - tips etc...

erm..... no! LOL - I know it's going to be absolute murder but I have way too much spare time at the moment and I really want to improve myself.

Right - am off to plan diet and routine and check out a few gym's.

Keep an eye out for my results thread.

Cheers guys.

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

Right mate.. where in the UK are you by the way?

Your gym should have a squat/power rack, leg press, hack squat, olympic bar (ie bench press bar), dip station and a smith machine as a minimum. (most gyms do, I know Fitness Firsts tend to)

I'm not too hot on AE's diet ideas but see how they suit you.
