Too Much Protein?

Hi guys, I'm skinny as hell, so I'm now beginning to take up DIESEL's guide.

One thing though, I haven't had much time to actually work out, but have been eating Whey regularly, is the protein wasted and is it bad for the body to have too much protein that isn't used to fill up muscles?

And is it useful to eat Whey alone without much workout?

Thanks

Yes if you eat far to much you could suffer from dehydration, electrolyte loss, calcium depletion, fatigue and kidney problems, but a little bit too much protein will not do you any harm.

This is why dr atkins and his great diet plan killed him at age 50 somthing.

Bullshyt.

To the original poster, drink a lot of water, and bust a shytload of protein.

Whey is fine to have not centered around workouts, just make sure you get a healthy fat in the shake (olive oil/flax oil) to slow the digestion of the whey.

I go through 5-6 scoops of whey a day.

semag are denying the health sideeffects? Sure by having more water, calcium and minerals+ salts you can eliminate the problems of dehydration, electrolyte loss, and calcium depletion but you will have the problem of fatigue and extrea stress on oyur kidney, although im sure to much protein does less damage to your kidney then beer does so its still a lot better then being down the pub every friday night.

exactly... I'm not saying it can't be bad, but if you drink enough water, you really shouldn't have to worry about it.

And, like you said, I love how many people are so quick to espouse the "dangers" of high protein diets, yet go out and get blasted drunk 3 hours later.

Well I'm here to tell you there is such a magic wand. Something that will make you almost completely irresistible to any woman you "point it" at. Something guaranteed to fill your life with love, romance, and excitement.

semag you are so right lol! my mum didnt want me to start taking adaptogens because a certian one i found had cafine in, which is bad for you. Never mind that amount of coffee she and every one else drinks and the cafine in soda and choclate.

When i said, for my cycling races im going to drink lots of cafine before hand because i heard it improves your endurance, she flipped saying it was so unhealthy, even thou i used to have a lot of coke or pepsi before i stoped drinking that kind of stuff.

The problem is people allow themselves to do unhealthy things because they prefer to. People who do not od serious excersize or sport see it strictly as a way of bettering your health rather then a hobby a passion or somthing to compete in. So when we do somthing in sports that has a slight negative effect on out health, yet less then if we didnt do any excersize at all. They think its crazy because we are 'decreasing our health through doing an activity that should increase our health'

If you speak to Nutritionists they will tell you something like .6g/lbs bodyweight based on research done donkeys years ago.

The truth is lots of newer studies (and no, not ones done by supplement companies) came out with what we already knew which is about 1g/lbs bodyweight (assuming not a fatty).

Much more and it's wasted, and it means you probably ate less fat and carbs to make room for it and that's a big mistake.

To be ill depends how healthy you are! Most people can eat 3 times that and only end up with ammonia p1ss. Bear in mind however a lot of people have organs not functioning at 100% and are not aware of it, for instance silent stones in the kidneys, mild infections etc.

Hope that helps.

haha i think its pretty funny that no one (me included) had thought of pointing that out.

Given that you use your muscles day to day it will see small improvments, but nothing significant so like you said, you need to work out.

i just did some pulls ups, once i couldnt lift myself up i caryed on doing them beyond the point where i could not lift myself i just hung on and even tohu i could hardly lift myself i tryed as hard as i could untill i could not hold on anymore, i must say my muscles feel 10 time sbetter then if i let go when i could no longer pull myself up, when i say better i mean 'better worked out' if my muscles are not feeling the workout i feel i have been wasting my time.

Most studies indicate the body is only capable of uptaking 1.6-1.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight. I usually encourage people to take 2grams per kg just to be sure. Thus a 75 kg man need only bother ingesting 150g protein per day, any excess the body will simply flush out in your urine.

Considering a healthy diet will yield most if not all the protein required, most people are taking too much whey and all they get out of it is expensive piss.

Also, the body requires a lot of carbs in order to actually uptake protein, so if you neglect CHO then all the protein in the world won't bulk you.

Food (or protein) for thought.

I would not go crazy on these protien powders. Sure have a shake ready in case youre pressed for time and you need a quick meal, but your diet should consist of natural foods. meats and complex carbs will eventually bulk you if you stick to 5-6 times a day.

What he said. Supplementing is fine, but you need real food. Work up a decent, high protein diet, and then supplement post workout (and maybe before bed). Course there's nothing wrong with downing a shake if you were busy and missed a meal. Remember though, if you're not working out, all that extra protein is just going to waste. Once you start really devoting yourself to working out though, remember to be patient, as it does take time. The fastest I've ever bulked (clean) was about 5lbs per month for 3 months (tappered after that).
