I really like Sobral, and was sorry to see him get throttled so quickly.

Apart from the obvious difference in fight style....when considering age alone, Sobral - 30, compared to Chuck Liddell - 36, the defeat makes sense. Its not only that Lidell is 'the best' - its also that Sobral wasn't ready. Given that a man usually reaches his physical (and mental?) prime in his mid to late thirties as a general rule - Lidell will likely retain his championship for a few more years to come, while Sobral has a few more years of work to do. At least this usually applies to light heavy / and heavy weights.

On the other hand - its good that Liddell won because it will be really great to see him fight Wandrelei.

As for Griffin and Bonnar...I never want to see them fight again. What a waste of time.

Note that Spike will be showing a free fight between Shamrock and Ortiz in October. That should be fun to see.

Wait a minute: you mean Shamrock and Ortiz are fighting for the third time? Or Spike is showing one of their previous fights?

Yes, they're scheduled to fight again.

You remember their last fight, and how many believed it was stopped too soon? Ortiz had said that he would be willing to fight again...and so I guess they're going to.

Its not a pay per view event though, nor is it an actual UFC....its going to be free on Spike.

Wouldn't it be freakin amazing if Shamrock knocked him out?

Shamrock never was a good, hard, fast striker. He was always slow at it cuz he just doesn't possess that skillset.

It never ceases to amaze me how many of these guys never evolve over the years. But, I guess they get so busy with training, teaching & self-promoting that they just don't have the time to learn any new tricks. Plus, it would be a big blow to their ego to have someone else teach them.

The only reason Ortiz/shamrock 3 is free is because noone would pay to see that crap! Ken shamrock is washed up, but for some reason he can't accept that! As for bonnar/griffin 2, it was built up way too much. Everyone was expecting the blood bath that they saw the first time and the fight sucked. Almost as big a letdown as the gracie/hughes fight!

I'm waiting for george st. pierre and hughes again, but who knows when that'll happen.

Shamrock - he's not that great a fighter, but as for 'washed up'...as in too old...I'm not too sure if that's a good enough excuse for him. Note that Randy Couture was older than Shamrock currently is now, when he completely man handled Ortiz, and spanked him on the as*. Randy Cotoure was also older than Shamrock is now when he knocked out Liddell in that first fight. Couture is 43, and Shamrock is 42.

So to me, his age is not entirely a factor here - but I think wayword summed it up well relating it to ego and the refusal to continue to learn and master the sport.

In my opinion, Couture has never really been an excellent fighter, but over the years has clearly shown perseverance and intelligence. When I think back to his earlier fights they were never won quick and easy...they were usually long and brutal. He nearly lost so many times, but would win in the end by sheer endurance. I was surprised when he held the light heavy title, considering how far he'd come and all the fights that he'd barely won.

As for Shamrock...it appears he still lives in those early days, and possibly thinks that by luck or magic he stands a chance. He's not doing the work and its kind of a joke. I think it basically comes down to attitude, work ethic and intelligence. Couture demonstrated all of these things over the years, and this is where Shamrock has fallen short.

What's as bad as this upcomming Shamrock / Ortiz fight is the fact that Ortiz wants to fight Liddell again. It would be a similar joke. Overall, I don't think Ortiz is that good. That fight between him and Griffin proved that Ortiz has poor stand up, and if someone can escape his strikes, he becomes very vulnerable.

The best match off for Ortiz right now would be Sobral. I would love to see those two fight. Enough with all these unrealistic match ups.

Me too.

I also anticipate the fight between Liddell and Wanderlei. I haven't heard a thing about it since it was initially announced. It better happen! Perhaps in November?

You probably know that UFC 63 in Sept 23 is Hughes vs Penn. I probably won't bother watching, I'm not really into the welterweights. PLus, I just don't like Hughes. Cyndi Crawford does though....she's usually present at every one of his fights. (That pretentious wench was cheering when Gracie lost).

Anyways...since St Pierre is coaching Ultimate Fighter / TUF 4 he will probably be scheduled for fights when the season ends. Maybe you will see your fight then?

As for TUF 4...did anyone see the second episode where the blonde guy was projectile bleeding out of his head? That was sick. I think if I were his opponent, I'd refuse to fight him like that. It was literally pouring on him. It was crazy messy. Yuck.
