Tip for motivation before exercise

Here's a simple yet effective tip for some of you lazy guys out there.

You all know you SHOULD be exercising but sometimes you just don't feel like it...I know that feeling...this is NOT good at all. So when you feel like this, immediately take off your shirt (and pants if you need to) and take a good look at yourself in the mirror. Are you completely satisfied with your body as it is? If not, then use your image as motivation. If you are COMPLETELY satisfied...quit lying to yourself and exercise.

Try it. It helps.

I'm going to give this a try. I've been having trouble finding the motivation lately.

I used to, and still do, coordinate it with a favorite TV show. I work out at home, so when Friends comes on, I throw on a pair of shorts, break out my 25 pound dumbells (cause I don't have a pullup bar in front of the TV) and go to down for the duration of the show. On average it ends up being about 200 - 260 pushups (in sets of 20 or 25), 300 or so crunches (in sets of 30) and about 100 - 150 curls (in sets of 10 - 15). But I'm not going for bulk.

Try coordinating it with something that you enjoy. A good CD that you listen to while working out, a good show, maybe look at it as a way to 'work up your appetite' before dinner (since the best time to eat is directly after working out cause your body processes it most efficiently), etc. That way it isn't JUST working out, but it's a combo thing.

I tried this yesterday and it worked. I've been slacking for the past couple of months and it shows.

The poblem with the mirror method is when you DO start to become satisfied. Then you look in the mirror and say, "You know, I look pretty good. I can skip the workout today." And you do. And it catches up. When all that time you should have been working out anyway in order to at least MAINTAIN that shape.

hah, i need motivation before meals. Meals are my workout.

For me, lifting weights is kinda fun. But ive never been an eater. My mom use to force me to eat when iwas young (shed literally force the food into my mouth with her hands).

I kind of like the other tips in this thread (TV, music, "Rocky" music), but for me, it's hard to exercise when I'm enjoying myself. It doesn't help my concentration when I'm smiling...

What works for me is writing down the day before what i will be doing on my next training day. sets and reps and exercises.

Like a checklist ,then u can work your way thru it on the day.

You'll find u work out harder and do more too if you preplan it.

BINGO BINGO!!! i found this out with my diet. pre plan what you will eat and you wont skip meals / eat half of the meal / etc.
