I know that there is nothing wrong with red meat, but I always heard ham is unhealthy because pigs eat just about anything thing, so the meat isn't healthy.

Surely there livers would filter out the toxins etc. This sounds like a myth to me.

And pigs will probably be fed in similar respects to other animals. I watched this programme called Kill it, Cook it, Eat it. They were slaughtering pigs live and the guys were very meticulous in the whole process. They checked the insides etc for signs off damage/disease. Any hint of dissatisfaction and they aren't approved to be sold.

Dunno, I love pork and eat it when I can.
It does require more cooking than other meats
due to the presence of certain parasites in swine.

I don't think it has to do with pigs eating anything....
ever see cattle or sheep or freakin' fish? Talk about
eating anything. Compared to most other livestock, swine
are remarkably similar to humans, physiology-wise.

Pork is great and I think it has gotten a bad rap
due to certain religious "sectors" which I won't
even begin to detail

Perhaps you're talking about deli ham?

deli meats in general are bad because of the nitrates and subsequent nitrites, as well as some other chemicals that shouldn't be consumed by any living being.

I think its a decent food product.

Not sure if it really has any benefits though if you are either trying to gain weight for bodybuilding or even just trying to lose weight.

It just seems like one of those foods that doesn't really help either goal very much but doesn't necessarily hurt those goals either.

ham is unhealthy to the extent that it contains sodium nitrate/nitrate, msg, etc.

it has a bad rap b/c it is relatively fatty, but most people don't realize that half that is monounsaturates (the main component of olive oil).

it also gets a bad rap for being fairly high in salt -- as are all preserved meats. unless you're living off it, this shouldn't be a big deal.
