I've hit a bit of a slump in my life and I feel like I'm just doing the daily grind. My girlfriend doesn't really mean a whole lot to me and I'm tired of just being confined to my small little corner of the world in the midwest. I'm a writer and have been filled with wanderlust for the past few years now and have been neglecting it, which may be fueling my depression, but I feel like I need to be out in foreign places and experience a different side of the world.
My question is - I'm 24 and if I apply I won't be getting out until I'm at least 26, is it worth it to spend the time in the Peace Corps even though I'll be missing out on some of the best years of my life (my 20's?). I want to make a difference and help improve the lives of people so this seems right up my alley, but the whole 27 months thing does seem rather intimidating. Are there better programs than the Peace Corps? Would any of you suggest doing this? Have any of you done it and have had a positive/negative experience?
I figure I'm only young once and I want to get out and see the world.
