People in a group that are using lets say the bench press, do a rep, then have a conservation with their buddy for 10 minutes before he does a rep meaning it will take forever before you can hop on. :trouble: this is why i go the gym alone, all that talking makes me feel like im wasting valuable workout time which is what im there for (although having a friend coming along on chest days would be great but i dont think i will)

The same guy every tuesday who does a bench press/bicep curl/anything other than ab workout, does one rep of that then goes to the nearest mirror and lifts up his shirt and looks at his abs (usually around females if there are some to be found) pulls it down walks up and down admiring his walk and then does it the shirt lift again before going back to his exercise to do another rep before repeating the mirror scene again... jesus i want to punch that guy

there are more but i cant think of any, so what are you pet peeves about the gym?

People who hog the squat rack when they ARE NOT DOING SQUATS!!!!

The old gym I used to lift at had 1 squat rack. There was always a lady doing DB lunges and weightless squats in there for 1/2 hour at a time. WTF!!!! I tried to work in with her but she wouldn't allow it and didn't speak english so I couldn't even argue with her.

My gym is predominately Asians. The older Asians tend to sit around and not workout, but just talk around the weights...then they give dirty looks sometimes when I ask them to move.

Other then that new/fat people in my gym that insist their workouts are just as intense and fulfilling as mine and continuously try to bug me mid workout about something annoying. Like after every set 'how many more sets do you have left?',after the 2nd time I just ignore them.

My number 1 though, without a shadow of a doubt. One time my brother was doing shoulders with me and and I left him to go get some water. Some fat guy tells my brother I don't know what I'm doing and going all the way down(full extension) on shoulder press is bad and he will injure himself...I've never been so upset over something stupid. My brother knew I'd get livid over this and waited to tell me until we left and got home.

I was super setting squats with leg extensions and this old man jacked the equipment in the middle of my set ruining my super set and then I asked him if we can share it and he said 'when I'm done you can have it',I just said 'f off' the fat a55 spent the next 30 minutes reading newspaper on it.

I think I'm an angry person.

The biggest thing that annoys me is when people do bicep curls in the squat rack. There a billion dumbells sitting around, but these idiots want to get a barbell and do curls in a squat rack while other people could be doing something a lot more useful in them.

Here is something that is definitely not common, but last week, some genius decided to empty his coffee into the water fountain-GROUNDS AND ALL! Obviously this clogged the fountain so nobody could use it. As of two days ago, it has not been fixed yet (I am using a university gym so there is probably two weeks of bureaucracy before they can get the green light to fix it...haha). On a similar note, who the hell drinks coffee at the gym?

I know this will not fall into the category or routine annoyances, but it definitely pissed me off, and others as well. Now if we want water (for those of us using free weights) we have to go down one floor to get it. Don't you just love brilliant people?

People lifting wrong.
People lifting to much weight and making fools of themselves. Ie the other day I Saw a guy doing bench in a smith machine, with two spotters helping to lift either end.

People who's warmup sets are heavier than my work sets. bah! jealous!

EFFORT, Im one of those guys, whats the problem with a dude being naked? its a changing room... :s

Cure.

Doing curls with dumbells vs. bars are two completely different things. If you don't use the squat rack to put down the barbell, where would you put it down?

No one workout is more useful then another as long as intensity and form are correct.

Wait I forgot one....the dudes that think they leg press 1k+lbs and only bring it down 1-2 inches before pushing the weight back up. Then make a ton of noise in the process. Hehe

The people that annoy me are the know it alls who come up and tell me I'm squatting too low, etc. I always ask them a lot of questions which they have no idea how to answer and make them look stupid, then go back to my workout.

Ex: This guy came up to me and said I was going too low and it was bad for my knees and that he used to be a powerlifter, so I asked him why it was bad for my knees, what feds he competed in, what weight classes and what his best lifts were... he had a hard time answering those questions

Other things that annoy me:

People who throw 500 lbs on their back, quarter squat it while screaming, and then strut around expecting everyone to praise them.

People who don't put their weights away.

The idiot gym workers who won't let me overhead press or power clean because "it's dangerous" but have no problem with people using the suicide grip on the bench or quarter squatting several times more weight than they can full squat.

Curling/rowing in the squat rack.

On the floor. If you can curl or row a certain weight, you should be able to deadlift several times that amount and don't need to use a rack where someone could be doing an exercise that actually requires a rack.

Being naked minding your own business changing by a locker is one thing. Brushing your teeth naked, showering naked, peeing naked, walking around non changing areas of the locker room naked is another thing. Old men seem to do this the most.

I shower naked, how else are you supposed to wash your sweaty ba11s and a55? But I walk to and from the shower with a towel on. Nobody wants to see another dude walkin around with his junk floppin around!

-People who don't wipe their sweat off the bench. I don't want to lay in your disgusting secretions.

-Ridiculously loud battle cries during a lift. Not necessary.

-Those Crossfit as$holes who monopolize 5 fvcking pieces of equipment at once. Get your own gym!

-As$clowns who put the 45's OVER the 2.5's, 5's, 10's, and 25's on the weight tree. You got it backwards.

-People who dont rack their weights EVER. We all forget once in a while (or just dont want to), but come on.

-Stupid group fitness classes who take up half of the gym.

-160 lb guys who try to use WAYYY too much weight.

-Half squatters.

-Those disgusting cyclists who leave a small reservoir of sweat under the bike.

-Unnecessary nudity.

-The guy who takes a dump and leaves the door open afterwards, smelling up half the gym.

-Old gay men who try to touch my abs.

-Nudity in the steamroom. Use a towel!!

-Guys who cant bench their bodyweight using bands or chains.

-Guys who cant squat 315 using bands and chains.

-People who lift less than me offering advice. That's like me going up to a 7' Nigerian and telling him how to play basketball. I gladly accept advice from those stronger or more experienced than me, however.

-Never be a d!ck to a new guy or novice. You might crush their confidence and make them afraid to ask questions. You were weak once, too.

-Ego. What good are you if you just strut around with your big fvcking balls and hoard all the experience you have to offer?

On the floor. Or better yet, on a bench if you can't deadlift what you curl.

And another thing that bothers me is the guy who can't do a single rep on his own. The idea is that you're supposed to be able to move a weight under your own strength, not with help of other people.

YES!!!! This is so fvcking annoying. How hard is it to stick 45's on the bottom and the little ones on top.

The nudity in the locker room bothers me too. I'm not gay, but come on, if you're going to prance around naked, at least have a body that is fit and toned, not saggy, weird, and paler than chalk.

I also hate :

-The loud, obnoxious social guy that seems to exist in every gym. I get it, you're way more social and outgoing than I'll ever be, can you just shut the fvck up and finish your damn workout so I can get on the stupid bench press?

-Trainers, who have clients that NEVER look different or more in shape.

- Old skinny dudes w/ bellies that give me advice on squatting, and who never step in a squat rack.

- Stinky people.

You know, I started paying attention and noticed something that has been mentioned here several times.

Nobody in my gym squats to parallel. Not even close to it. I've seen it with other stuff, it's specially cute with the leg press where they load up a ton of weight (haha, I made a funny) only to kinda bend their knees a bit before pushing and straightening again.

But the squatting is annoying because when I go squat I have to always remove weight, then I huff and puff and work my ass off trying to go all the way down, only for the next person to double the weight on the bar and kinda go down a couple of inches on each rep before calling it a day.

Squat properly and we will all have to do less weight shuffling dammit!

This ... is a capital crime. By leaving sweat for the next guy to wipe off, they are forcing their own dirty business on someone else. It is a breach of the rules for how to act in public.

There are many behaviors that are perfectly legal, that I consider worse than many illegal acts. This is one of them.

-Those disgusting cyclists who leave a small reservoir of sweat under the bike.
Same with this.

-Old gay men who try to touch my abs.
This is plain guillotine fodder.

- group of guys doing t-bar rows in the squat rack thinking they bad ass.

- guy doing quarter squats with 135, using the padded bar wrap, then acts like he's the **** afterwards.

- guys benching with flaired elbows and their feet flailing around.

- guys who are working biceps when I start my workout, who are still workin bi's when I leave. Give it a rest boys.

- gym staff who think I want to listen to Britney Spears. Play some good music for once!

- guys who wear nice outfits to the gym, usually in the 130-150lb range.

- guys who go to the gym to talk. Get your attention fix elsewhere boys.

ps someone mentioned "who drinks coffee in the gym?"... I do :D
