well i work at this car rental company, and we have 3 white guys-good english and canadian guys and 1 asian guy -good english and canadianized who all been pretty much with the company for like 5 to 20 years and they been washing , vacuming and prepping cars. i ask them why they don;t do a better job or try auto mech, or something that would pay more-and they said they aren't interested. one of them even said he wasn;t into fixing cars, and that he likes car and he likes cleaning cars. he also said he has a passion for them and really likes his job-cleaning cars. he said he like talking to customers and seeing them....

you think these guys with good english and all , grew up in canada, and you think they do and get a better job-went to school be a accountant, lawyer, engineer, nurse.,...etc or something more career hey. i knew immigrants who didn;t now english later on became a accountant at a big firm, and another became a doctor too.
but since they been working there for so long , funny thing is they are making good wages too . 20/hr since the company is unionized . why don't these guys even just go get a real job or even a better job. i'm sure htey can ,but why don't they . lol hey . they look normal too and talk normal. i don't think they are mentallychallenged. i mean they can drive the car up and down and have a DL.

what do you girls or even guys think of ppl like this? do you now of guys like this, just happy doing a car wash/prep job or someting similar to it.

ya i understand and all, but you think someone who has good english skills and grew up in canada would do a better job. i mean who really works in 7 11 cashier for 10 years, i mean at most 1 year or so and you move on and do a better job like a engineer, architect,...etc

i mean just imagine introducing youself to your gfs family and friends ah yes my name is Derick and i prep/wash car at budget rental car, and i been doing it for 20 years. i work in 3 other car rental companies before too and i was washing cars in all of them. oh ya and the girl is like a senior accountant analyst. lol , i mean it could happen but i doubt a person with such a top job/eduction would date a guy seriously doing a low end job.

I know guys from Donald Trump status all the way down to the bottom of the totem pole who pull good ass. It's all about confidence and being comfortable with yourself, who you are, and what you do. If those guys enjoy their lives and their jobs it will shine through when they're working their game.

Are you kidding? To start a life its ok, but at 28-40, you better be doing something else if you want to marry a girl.

Option A:

Sacrifice your youth to become a society dildo. Bust your a$$ to be able to drive a big car, buy a TV with 500+ channels and give yourself a slap on the back for accomplishing something in the eyes of society. Go to some ****tail parties and pretend to be better than everybody else because you are wearing a 3000$ suit with some dudes name on it. Then marry a golddigging wh0re that spends your money while you work a job you hate for 12+ hours a day, make kids and get a dog. Your wife starts banging the gardener becasue all you do is work. Then when you come home after work you watch TV and maybe have a lil sex. Repeat for 40 years.

Option B:

Work a chilll job that you enjoy doing. Have lots of down to earth friends. Enjoy banging lots of women. Get drunk and experience adventures. Meet lots of new people at your job and enjoy a job without a lot of responsibilty. Live in the moment.

What would you choose?

Joe45.

The dudes you described are free in every way you are not.

You have a point ChrizZ but you forget that group B is most of the time constrained money-wise and have problems with mortgage and other debt, but yes they can still enjoy a decent life.
And the sad thing is that the people in Group B don't always bang girls and sometimes don't even have friends, and add that with no money.

Group A is exactly how you described it. But they can travel, provide a lot for their children when they're older, and live off a nest egg.

There will always be people that live a happy life choosing option a) and there will always be people that live a happy life choosing option b)

It´s a matter of attitude. If you are happy with what you are doing then why would you wanna change anything?

i just think guys like these car wash guy just have no ambition and goals in life. i worked in the rental company with them before. i did it for a year and half. my friend he did it for 2 years. i have a CA designation working as a senior auditor for a big firm. my friend he's a computer engineer at EA. we both have degrees and good high paying jobs. i also have friends who have worked at grocery stores, retail and fast food joints in the past ,and now are lawyers, doctors, business consultants, financial analyst, civil engineers...etc. i met up with these past co workers and i just couldn't believe why someone can work so long in a dead end job and be happy with it . lol. i always been told "push yourself and make yourself better".

just imagine dating a guy who worked as a car wash and introducing him to your friends and family. omg i can see the chuckles and laughs for sure. i doubt any girl with a professional degree/job would date someone or even associate with anyone of such low standards in life.

Each man must live his limited time on this planet in his own fashion. Its very "1950s" to assume happiness and success is measured by society.

I know lawyers and IT professionals who pull down serious bank and have alot of fun toys, but they are miserable in their day to day activities.

Doing something you don't want to do, or doing something for someone else's approval is a quick road to unhappyville. You read hundreds of posts here daily about AFCs who got married cause they felt the pressure, only to be even more unhappy after marriage. You read about men failing in their goals because they do it for others instead of themselves.

I am a huge fan of self improvement and it works for me. Because I self improve for....myself. I am upward mobile in my industry because it makes me feel accomplished. I seek new challenges daily because I like exercising my capabilities.

These men you speak of may not need the same thing others do to enjoy their lives. Who are we to judge? Frankly it sounds like your co-workers have found a "zen" for their lives and I applaud them.

Lets not forget that alot of successful people in the world dropped out of colleges. At the same time these men took a path less traveled and won.

So they don't have flashy cars and maybe there not dating HB 7-10s. They might not own huge televisions and have offshore caiman accounts. Perhaps their cloths are plain and unassuming. Maybe they take a bus to and from work. Consider they might not go to upscale clubs to have a good time.

Yet they are happy! This should be a good example to anyone who does not feel worthy of societies approval.......Happiness comes from within, not from a catalog.

Liberate yourself from the system of consumer culture and be free, be free and laugh at those working overtime to pay for the gas on the second escalade in the garage of a soon to be foreclosed home.

-Happy Trails

I have made a conclusion about modern life in a capitalist society..

You're probably gona be miserable alot of the time due to excessive competition and the social degradation it brings so then you have to ask yourself,

"would you rather be sad and rich - or - sad and poor?"..

I am sure most humans would rather cry on a velvet couch with gold trim than under a bridge in a cardboard box..

It is that mentality that fosters the cycle of continued disappointment.

Rich or poor is not the question here. Finding happiness within those extremes is the key.

Happiness and a centered life with balance in your mind and joy in your heart is never a matter of finances.

However I understand you Dongorgon, doing this in a capitalist society is almost an insurmountable endeavor. So if the OPs co-workers have done so, then they are more enlightened as car washers with "nothing" than professionals with "everything."

Exactly.. The Capitalist mentality is what is keeping us from being happy... BECAUSE "HAPPY" IS A SOCIAL CONCEPT!

Joe there is plenty of high paying jobs that are out there that you wouldnt do. For example lawyers get payed six figures but i would never do that job because i feel like it would bore me to death. On top of that there are some people who cant stand school so they have to accept the fact that they have to have a job that doesnt require education.

I know a few people who work in retail, selling TVs and mobile phones, and they love their job. We all have had a part-time job in retail and I hated it. But end of the day, everyone is different.

Its all about doing what you love. I love flying, so I chose to become a pilot. I have a 100k US dollars student loan. I am looking for a job as an instructor to build my hours. But I do not look at my friends in retail and feel sorry for them. If it floats their boat, let them be as they are.

Yep it's a truly f'ed up world. Where people judge by what kind of work you do. I don't work in a "very flash" job, but i am much happier because it is a big improvement on what i was doing before. In fact i worked in a car wash job before as well and i can't believe i did it too.

I feel the same way.

And the car-detailing guys could always start a business offering that service if any of them are the entrepreneurial type, but I agree that is rare. A friend of mine works at an auto parts factory stamping parts. He says almost everyone there never thinks about getting a better job or going to night school.

A state in America that'll unmercifully leave you
I second that nobody should be judged by what they do for a living. I've written about this before. It is wrong and ignorant. If people enjoy working retail or washing cars, so be it, that's what they like, that's what makes them happy. You need to do what makes you happy in life. What is it of anyone's concern what someone else does for a living? Why should anyone care? Like The_Last_Gunslinger said, "These men you speak of may not need the same thing others do to enjoy their lives. Who are we to judge?" I've always said the same. People need to worry about their own lives, and mind their own business. But no, we can't, because we live in such a superficial, f*cked-up society. It's disgusting.

if they're in the minority that genuinely enjoy it, more power to them. but most people doing menial work aren't free. they're just comfortable and want the least amount of resistance possible. if you wanna know whether or not car washing is their passion in life, watch how they react if the company goes to sht

comfortable and stuck in homeostasis does not equal free

a lot of these guys will turn into guys who at age 65 hate on the wealthy and complain that life never gave them any opportunity
