Skilled carpenters created new technologies and the sleek and deadly longships they built allowed Norse warriors to sail farther and faster than ever before. This revolutionized Norse society of newly ambitious men, wifeless young warriors, and new type of ship, created the perfect storm. Northmen who had little chance of marriage or wealth back home, began aggressively exploring new lands, raiding towns and villages, and taking home treasure, slaves and women. The success of these warriors would set Europe afire.
Now, researchers suggest a new twist on an ancient explanation: Scandinavian practices that led powerful men to monopolize women also might have led to significant pools of unwed men. Many of these single men, looking for marriage, might have gone on raids to gain status, wealth and captives, and thus go on to secure brides and concubines of their own.

This is true but the modern Scandinavians are no basis for comparison. The Viking blood ended up in Russia for the most part.

Not really.
The Swedish Vikings went the route through the Baltic rivers to Russia and beyond towards Asia. So the did the Norwegians too too some degree and to Iceland and from there to US.

The Danish Vikings however conquered Europe and especially United Kingdom and Ireland and then to the Mediterranean Sea which is why the English language is so heavily influenced by the Scandinavian language and uses a lot of words rooted in Danish and some of the Swedish/Norwegian language.

We spread our seeds pretty well over Europe and beyond that that time...

I think you forgot the Angles and Saxons. Those were germanic tribes, hence why English is related to Danish, but the Danes were never long enough on the island. I'm not sure about Scotland though. They were there for a longer time.

I had always thought that English is considered a Western Germanic language, while the Scandinavian ones are North Germanic. In any case, modern English was strongly forged by the conquering Normans, who spoke (by then) a Scandinavian-influenced dialect of French, which is why there are so many cognate words between English & French.

We hit France pretty hard too as Vikings so there is that connection too.. Charlemagne, (Charles the Great), did everything in his power to try to stop us from invading France, but eventually failed at that too and the rest is history...

The Vikings were no match for Paris. They tried multiple times to invade and were always repelled by the formidable French defense of being so filthy that invaders caught the plague immediately.

Actually it's because they basically gave one of the Vikings, Rollo, titles, land and the daughter of the king as a wife to protect them from the other Vikings...he became the Ruler of Normandy

"English blood" is made from plenty of Viking blood.

First they were Celts, then the Angles and the Saxons and Jutes (from Germanic tribes who had migrated to Denmark) settled and mixed.

Then a few hundred years later the "proper" Vikings started showing up.

Then at the Battle of Hastings, Normans (the Viking descendants who lived in Normandy, France) essentially ruled England for a while.

Genghis Khan, an individual, is famous for fathering tons of children in Asia.

The Vikings, as a people, conquered plenty of land, banged plenty of women, and left their DNA all over the place.

Not exactly "geomaxxing."

The Vikings had more of a hit and run strategy than an occupying strategy.

They did pretty well in Paris.

From Wikipedia:

The siege of Paris of 845 was the culmination of a Viking invasion of West Francia. The Viking forces were led by a Norse chieftain named "Reginherus", or Ragnar, who tentatively has been identified with the legendary saga character Ragnar Lodbrok. Reginherus's fleet of 120 Viking ships, carrying thousands of men and women, entered the Seine in March and sailed up the river.

The Frankish king Charles the Bald assembled a smaller army in response but after the Vikings defeated one division, comprising half of the army, the remaining forces retreated. The Vikings reached Paris at the end of the month, during Easter. They plundered and occupied the city, withdrawing after Charles the Bald paid a ransom of 7,000 French livres [2,570 kg (83,000 ozt)] in gold and silver.

Well no one understood it was germs. Each side attributed success and failure to whether or not their gods had smiled on them that day.

The Viking society was slave powered. The slaves did the work at home that the men were leaving to go warring. Their concept of slavery was different, in that it was temporary. Slaves were basically worker class and were treated at least ok. There was nothing like the American concept of enslaving someone forever under the rationale that person was too inferior to ever make it on their own.

If anyone back then had known about germs and disease, you could have ruled the world. Just assemble an army and have them throw poop at the enemy.

Yes in the start they were successful in repelling the Viking attacks but eventually they failed.

I noticed your threads have a narrative about how a rise of sexless men will be changing society, which will just get worst over time. It was 5% and an interesting specticle in the 90s/early 00s (ie even enough to make a popular movie about in 2005), fast forward to today, now it is common at 30%, but a decade from now, or less, it will cross 50% or even 75%. Things tend to go in an exponential direction until you get ridicolous numbers like 90% until there is a correction. And @MatureDJ is seeing that direction, that correction and what it means for society as a whole.

Yeah but not quite as much as the Saracens, Moors, or Ottomans did. From what I hear, Italians used to all have blonde hair and blue eyes. Then, some darker neighbors came in and did so much f*ckin with local women that blonde hair and blue eyes turned into darker hair and tanned skin. I didn't know this for a while but apparently, Spain and Portugal were ruled for 100s of years by Muslims. Before the Muslims came, all Spaniards looked indistinguishable from Scandinavians. In fact, Ancient Romans were often blonds with blue eyes or natural redheads.

I have met so many people from the Balkans, Mediterranean, and even France who could easily pass for Middle Eastern and are darker than what I would expect of a European.

It might be taboo amongst the Europeans and brings your average Italian or Spaniard to the boiling point of rage but I think it is something that is rarely talked about. I never knew until only a few years ago that Muslim invaders had f*cked so many European women hundreds of years ago. You have to look it up but it seems like Europeans try to conceal that part of history at every turn, that certain parts of Europe has masses of Muslims screwing local women and darkening up the gene pool. Like I have seen Spaniards and Italians that can easily pass for Arabs.

I used to wonder why but it made more sense to me when I started reading the history.

It seemed quite significantly given that Spain had the "Reconquesta" and even literature like The Alchemist story talk about this influence but you never hear of it.

Apparently a French king was the one who had to stop the Saracens but along the way, they did so much f*cking that it left a big chunk of Southern Europeans looking like Muslims. No wonder that part of the EU is so anti-Muslim compared to the Scandinavians.

Mods, if this is inappropriate content then I hope you take it down but this is for historical context. It is about the Barbary Pirates.

So I am bored and in poor health to game properly but OP, you might find this link below interesting. What these dudes did makes the Vikings civilized by comparison!

Large raiding parties might be essentially unopposed. When pirates sacked Vieste in southern Italy in 1554, for example, they took an astonishing 6,000 captives. Algerians took 7,000 slaves in the Bay of Naples in 1544, in a raid that drove the price of slaves so low it was said you could “swap a Christian for an onion.” Spain, too, suffered large-scale attacks. After a raid on Granada in 1566 netted 4,000 men, women, and children, it was said to be “raining Christians in Algiers.” For every large-scale raid of this kind there would have been dozens of smaller ones. The appearance of a large fleet could send the entire population inland, emptying coastal areas. In 1566, a party of 6,000 Turks and Corsairs sailed up the Adriatic and landed at Fracaville. The authorities could do nothing, and urged complete evacuation, leaving the Turks in control of over 500 square miles of abandoned villages all the way to Serracapriola.

After purchase, slaves would be put to work in various ways. Men were usually assigned to hard manual labor, such as working in quarries or heavy construction, while women were used for housework or in sexual servitude. At night the slaves were put into prisons called bagnios that were often hot and overcrowded.
Apparently, they used to take white women as sex slaves way back in the day bro......

Found these pics.

Arab bro below going "hmm not quite blonde enough for my tastes, swipe left"

Dude in the pic on the right looks like he is banging her while trying to present her.

Link below is NSFW and contains insensitive language, of which I do not approve or condone, but it is from one of my favorite movies. This is the moment Dennis Hopper realizes that the Sicialian mafia are going to kill him for not telling them how to find his son, and he has a few words for them first...
