Today I started studying sleeping in my psychology class and it got me thinking alot about sleep and how much time it takes up from our lives that could be used doing more productive things. We've always been told to get atleast 8 hours of sleep a night for optimum performance in our daily activities. However, I think there are ways that we can get much less sleep without the effects of loss of concentration and memory that we've all been taught will happen if we don't get enough sleep.
I am very jealous of people that can get a few hours a night and be fine. Donald Trump gets four hours of sleep a night and if you watched howard stern last night you heard Trump admit it. Napoleon used to get 5 hours of sleep, and used to say "six hours of sleep for a man, seven for a woman, and eight for a fool." For me personally, if i get less than six im a total zombie and don't want to do anything but take a nap.
I just read some information on the Uberman sleep schedule, which requires 6 30 minutes naps spread out every four hours. While my job and going to school full-time prevent me from even attempting this, the manipulation of sleep cycles (REM) got me thinking that there HAS to be a way to be able to get a few hours of sleep per night and feel fine. Im not sure what Trump does, but whatever he does it works and works well.

If anyone has any further information on this I'd appreciate it because all my text book does is preach getting "enough" sleep.

MY reality
I don't know. I can never really function 100% unless I get more than 7 hours of sleep a night. It kinda sucks.

I think being regular too helps. going to bed at the same time and getting up at the same time helps.

I do about 7 hours a night. And maybe an extra hour or two on the week-ends.

Hm.. I think it's all about getting used to it. I sleep or I used to sleep about 4-5 hours a day. They say it'll affect your life big time. I still sleep about 6 hours and I'm 41. Maybe I'll die when I'm 45. But hey, I feel healthy! :D

The secret is... get used to it. You're lazy.

I just realized, a lot of successful people are almost always the guys that go against the extreme.

I just asked my son "is it ok to sleep for only 4 or so hours?"

My son's response? A big wide eye and ".. dad... what do you do when we're all sleeping?"

Why would you want to limit your sleep? My idea of a success is someone who can sleep 8-10 hours per night without worrying about it. Why does Trump only sleep 4 hours when there's absolutely no reason for him to work at all? Oh, that's right, he's caught up in the matrix.

Do not cut into your sleep time. It is uber-valuable.
