I am diligently looking for work mostly around the new england area, but also on some west coast cities including Seattle, San Fransisco, and San Diego. I have a lot of friends in a lot of places trying to get me something, but even that is proving difficult. Can't imagine how it is for people who have no one pulling for them.

The long term aspiration is to use this opportunity is to get a pay raise from my last job all while possibly relocating someplace new. However, getting zero replies kind of kills that opportunistic feeling and replaces it with inadequacy and hopelessness. One job says you don't have enough experience, another says you have too much. The grind is to search for work at the companies I want, apply, try and get a contact number, and persist. With the smaller firms, the goal is to keep 2-5 leads in communication.

Interesting article that mostly touches upon the departure of the manufacturing within the USA, but it hits on others as well. Most notable is the devaluation of the dollar by 95% since 1913.

I still have a job for at least another 12 months. I'm running a side business and paying off all of my debts by then. At which point I'm sure the economy will collapse anyway and my savings will be worthless. I should probably learn how to farm.

I'm prepping myself.
The ground work has been laid, and it doesn't look good. I'm trying to get my sole debt down as much as I can.

This is definitely not a recovery and it's past a recession.
Gas has continued to go up in the past 7 days. Gone are the times of gas only going up during the summer and then going back down during fall/winter. It was already past 2.65 over here. It was 2.49 last week.

Prices at supermarkets are quietly going up. Stock up now while you have a chance.

Gold and silver keep skyrocketing while the dollar keeps going down the lowest since a LONG time ago.
Russia had huge wheat problems. The EU grows weary of this economic unrest.

Those who lost their jobs in 2008 are finally being released from funemployment.

Unemployed, looking for work, sent dozens of resumes from craigslist job postings.

I'm lucky to have had lots of savings so I have managed to survive but my savings can't run forever. Right now i'm just looking for any job I don't care if it's a factory, call center or whatever. I just need a little money coming in while I look for something better.

Working on online business and hoping that withing a year I'll be making enough money daily to not have to work.

Things are going to get a lot worse that's for sure and by a lot worse i'm talking about economic collapse worse than Greece and riots a lot worse than Greece. Americans got guns and if things keep getting as bad as they are now we are going to see riots and shootings and crime skyrocketing like never before.

At this point you probably have a woman (or multiple women) chasing you around, calling you all the time, wanting to be with you. So let's talk about how to KEEP a woman interested in you once you have her. This is BIG! There is nothing worse than getting dumped by a woman that you really, really like.

Folks, true things aren't looking good right now. The dollar is falling off of a cliff, we've got record unemployment in our "recovery", and now all these mortgages don't have titles associated with them anymore.

Basically, people who have mortgages, can tell banks to f off..and "show me the title". The banks are caught in a paper nightmare. They don't have the right to the title, well, it's a damn mess...

We live in very changing times. None of us have job security.

Best we can do is batten down the hatches. Get work while you can, and try and have some food saved.

I have 6 months worth of food and water stored in the basement, a rifle, and a pistol, with enough ammunition for both.

That's my new insurance policy ;)

This recession(see: depression) is going to get much worse before it gets any better. If you don't see that we're not out of it, then I'd question how deep your head is buried in the sand. Anything you see in Europe will be coming to America and the rest of the modern world within 1-3 years. The only difference is, there will be no IMF to bail out the USA.

Indeed.

Whoever is still oblivious only has to read some of the posts on this board. This is a very strange cross-section of society we're a part of, and it's evident even here that there are some clued in to what's happening.

i live within my means and I don't waste my money on crap I don't need.

-I drive around town in a 12 year old car that's paid off.
-I surf the web on a 5 year old computer.
-I have a cell phone that's between 4-5 years old.
-I never spend more than 50 dollars a week on groceries and toiletries.
-I get books and movies from the public library rather than buying them.
-I got an apartment within walking distance of my job so I spend virtually nothing on gas. A tank of gas lasts me 2 months.

I agree wholeheartedly.

I'm getting my stash ready as well. It won't be World War Z, but it could be worse.

This will be worse than the Great Depression. This time... it's global and it's REAL.

I really haven't felt any negative effects of the recession. I've been promoted twice, turned down multiple job offers, and bought a new car. I live in Nevada, the state with the highest unemployment in the nation. I really don't get how things have gotten so bad for so many people with better skills and qualifications then I have.
It's not just me either. Several of my friends are achieving higher levels of success now then before these "dark days" fell upon us all.
My advice is the same as how my mindset has been all these years. Stay hungry. Not just hungry for you but hungrier then the people around you. Set a goal and go gang busters on that business.

what are you guys doing to beat this recession.

Right now forty cows are sleeping peacefully in my backyard. There was a new baby calf born two nights ago. He looks delicious. I am also happy to live next door to 4,000 acres of Federal land that is a national wildlife refuge. The Feds took it by eminent domain long ago from homesteaders who were living off the land. If some doomsday scenario does arise, it will be the people in the cities who hurt the most.

Until that happens, one can only play the job market like one plays the stock market - go with what's hot. In a down market, there will still be winning picks. Health care, education, and corrections are all still hiring.

The world isn't going to end - you aren't getting off that easy.

Quit being a crybaby and let's put this nation back to work.

November 2nd is going to be a damn fine start to putting our nation back. If the new clowns screw it up then the whole thing must be dismantled altogether.

As far as feeling the effect of the recession... OH I FEEL IT!!! There are probably no less than 5 homes in my hood with the foreclosure notice attached to the front door and window. My home will be there soon enough too. I thought long and hard about trying to keep my house and I lost 50k alone on my home a year and half ago. I am underwater like many homeowners. Since foreclosures continued, I see no sense in paying 3 times what my house will be worth in the long run.

Unfortunately, I had to file chapter 7 as well and included the house in it. Chances are with the foreclosures being halting, I could probably stay in my property a year or two for free. I am so disgusted, i just want out.

All it means is that people are less willing to spend. This affects everyone in industry as consumers will cut spending on their suppliers ( or outright steal their ideas...seen this one a lot). concerning my last venture which clearly needed government subsidies to launch, when Uncle Sam is having budget problems on their own, they aren't going to put much into new projects like unproven energy.

Best of luck with your new venture. When this recession/depression is over, you'll be able to leverage the growth by having your infrastructure in place and ready to go. Should be good times for you and your partners. Keep us posted!

600 billion in quantitative easing with 75 billion a month going towards god knows what ( likely treasuries being bought). We are spending tons of money and seeing very marginal real GDP growth. Not sure what the end game is by spending ourselves into an unrecoverable mess, but it seems we keep heading in the wrong direction in terms of our fiscal policies. Will what we are seeing in France eventually happen over here?
