I just read a very interesting article on the wall street journal today, heres a summary:

"....By age 50 even more women than men are reaporting a turbulent midlife transition- 36.1% with 34% of men....This pattern of female midlife crisis is now emerging because, to put it simplu, women are different today. For the first time in history , women not only face more of the kind of stresses that tend to bring on midlife crises, but they also have the finacial muscle, the skills and the confidence to act out their frustrations and resolve them. In a sense, women are having midlife crises now because they can. The income of middle ages women has posted powerful gains in comparasion with men's. Womens inflation-adjusted full time earnings have risen 16.8%, men's have declined 1.7% according to goverment statistics. Nearly one-third of wives now outearn their husbands, and the proportion of women earning more than $100,000 have tripled in the past decade....."My successful, satisfying career allowed me to be very independent, with a ****y attitude" that sparked to a full blown midlife crisis, says a california saleswoman in my study. Women today are better educated than men, too, earning 58% of all college degrees granted, including 59% of all master's degrees, says the national center for education statistics.

Ripple effects
Midlife women are turning old sex roles upside down. they are dating and having affairs with younger mates- a lucury that used to be regarded as the exclusive province of men.... In 1991, research showed married men cheated a lot more often, with about one in five admitting to having affairs, compared with one in 10 women. But a 3000 person study from the national oninon research center in 2002 suggests that the overall rate of extramartial cheating for women is rising rapidly and is appraching that of men with nearly one in six married women saying they have had affairs."

I dont think is bad that women are getting better and better, but at this rate, the way we view women will completly change.

Do you think that this is a good thing or bad thing?

If you think that it is a bad thing, what would it talk to turn this situation around if it could be turned around at all.?
