This is a bogus campaign.

According to the Dove Campaign its purpose is to promote "Real Beauty" and raising self-esteem while slamming the media image of today's attractive women.

The reality is that it is another media outlet that is selling something (it cares about selling soap not making the world better). Another reality is that the it is MEN not WOMEN who pick their mate mostley soley based on looks, youth and health. You can't be politically correct on something like this that took millions of years of evloution to create.

Just take a look at the following 3 models:

(Yes she is oversized. If you place a photo of her after she loses 30-40 lbs then most men won't have a problem with picking the outstanding box. Its fine if this is your size but it comes back to what men are looking for it and that is health. Fat is not attractive. They are better off promoting healthy life style and not body acceptence.)

(Yes she is wrinkled because she is an older women. It is a fact of life. I assume this woman in her 50's (or 60's) and thus most men would rather pick a youthful looking woman. Accept that fact that your reproduction period has passed and don't try to compete with younger women.)

(This woman is not flawless nor flawed. However clear skin indicates that the woman is in better health, another important aspect of reproduction and mate selection).

I am with you on that!

It annoys me how we are made to feel guilty about judging fat people as unattractive! Why should we feel guilty? It's our natural make up that decides who we find attractive or who we don't. Do they expect us to pretend?

My girlfriend once asked me "Will you still love me if I got fat?" I said, yes I'd still love her, but I probably wouldn't fancy her. She got quite offended so I asked "Would you still fancy me if I didn't wash or shave or got face piercings or tattoos?" She said she wouldn't then tried to use the "that's self inflicted" argument. I explained so is being fat!

So many people try to be politically correct these days, it's like a form of brainwashing. It's like women who say looks don't matter and all they want is a man with a sense of humour...total bullsh*t!!

Yes it's really nice to think everybody is equal, but they are not! Some are more successful, genetically better, fitter and healthier, smarter and so on. That's how it is and we can't go through life blocking out the facts.

back to Paris, missing the USA
Although they didn't admit it publicly (of course they didn't), in the cosmetics industry, their campaign has been regarded as a textbook case of marketing failure.

For example, in Paris, their huge billboards portraying a group of smiling overweight and ugly women were mysteriously and silently pulled out after not even two weeks of display. They switched back to their "traditional" white and pure Dove style as if the campaign never existed...

What were they thinking???!!! Sure you need to be creative and unconventional when you do marketing, but you can't work against nature. And nature (our genes) tells us to prefer healthy and beautiful women. It has never changed through our millions of years of evolution, and it never will.

I do respect fat/ugly/old/etc... women, I'm just NOT attracted to them and I don't find them beautiful. No hard feelings.

Oh by the way, Dove sucks, l'Oréal rules!
I might be biased since I will be working for l'Oréal in a couple of months...

This is a good point to bring out. Note that Dove won't get any support from men, but will get support from women who not only use their product, but who think that men should judge women on their personality and their smile rather than their looks.

If you get more men than women voting on these polls, they wouldn't get the expected results. Hell, the results they already have aren't great.

Men frequently err by talking too much. They often monopolize conversations, droning on and on about topics that bore women to tears. They think they're impressing the women when, in reality, they're depressing the women.

I reckon a perfume company should come out with a cool ad that says "NO FAT CHICKS!"
