Anyway to teach your parents how to use computer? In particular, Windows XP, and Office Outlook.

I've tried Video Professor, but apperantly the concept of watching a video and clicking on your computer instead of the video is hard to grasp. I don't have the patience to teach, since not a happy healthy family, never was. But anyway, I'm thinking perhaps there is a book I could buy, give it and let them read while they practice on a laptop.

Probably the best thing you can do is buy them "Windows XP for dummies". I tried teaching my parents, but it's pretty hopeless. They like bugging me to come over and do stuff for them on their computer, but my life is much too busy to be catering to them all the time. I tell them just to play around with the computer, and that they can't really mess anything up by just experimenting. Of course, they prefer making excuses for me to come visit, which I'd prefer not to.

Community colleges have courses for this stuff. Sign them up and wash your hands of it.

Bill it as "an excuse to get out of the house and potentially meet some new friends... you can e-mail each other!"

Yes. That's the reason behind my mother getting a laptop and wanting to learn computer. I understand that, but have absolutely no patience for that. I'm glad I'm not alone.

It also appears that the more I'm involved the dumber she gets, as if to make me more involved. Key word is involved, no so much learning computer but having me around playing with her and computer.

I want to buy a book and leave her and computer alone, because that's how people learn thing. If there are excuses, such as no time, etc, that's really not my problem.

She's still a stage where she wouldn't know how to look up help on the internet or use remote assistance. Like I said, there is video professor video window telling her to click on this and that, she is clicking on that video where the video professor is clicking.

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

man why you gotta call your parents dumb? And YOU are the idiot. If she does that just but another fvcking monitor --> dual screen --> put the vid prof on the other screen and tell her just to click on stuff on her own screen.

If THAT STLL DOESNT WORK, then you should just buy another computer all together. Or spend like 1 hr a week or day learning with her/aka teaching her and stuff.

damn if you can't even do that for your parents then you are a piece of sh1t.

I'm a piece of sh1t, and you are the opposite of that. Now that you let us know we respect you more. It's a big achievement at 19!!!

Because they're *******s and they have no respect for me.

Not everyone has a good relationship with their parents. The less time I spend with mine, the less stressed out I am.

That's a good idea, but they're too cheap to pay for something like that. Hell, they're too cheap to pay for the internet.
