Anyone else had/have this problem? I'm 6 1, 165, and my upper body and arms are boney as hell. My stomach and legs, other than needing to be tightened up, are fine.

I'm looking to just get upper body/arm strength.

That's ultimately the body I'd like to have...not overly muscular, but a man's body.

I'm signing up for the gym this week. Not sure what type of exercises I should be doing? I have a low tolerance for pain, so perhaps machine exercises might be better?

LOL. That's what you think. At 165 and 6'11" I doubt your legs are fine.

For now you do, but eventually you'll get used to it and miss it when you don't have it. Assuming you don't go overboard. You want a very slight but dull pain in your muscles after a workout.

Machine exercises are good for isolation. If you say for example, have small biceps, then do some machine exercises to focus on the biceps and bring them to a nice size like the other muscles.

Also good for recovering from injury. The great thing about machines is that they limit your range of motion. Perfect for recovery exercises after an injury.

Not so great for muscle building.

Do compound exercises for overall muscle building and add in some machine exercises at the end of a workout to really focus on a muscle or two you want to grow a little faster.

I'd like to have bigger arms overall, not just biceps. I'm not sure how much bone mass I have to work with though. I have women's model like arms.

It was an example of how to use a machine effectively. Lots of people use them as their main exercises, this is not the way to build muscle efficiently.

Use compound exercises, supplement with isolation exercises.
