Ive been looking for a workout, or excersise that will give me a nice overall body. I heard swimming will do the trick, im a bit of a newbie on the technicalities and terms, so could anyone explain what would be the best swimming routine(and what the moves themselves are) for about 30-45 minute swim. And any reccomendations on how long to swim, and anything else from swimmers would be welcome, im pretty excited about this. I figure i already enjoy swimming, it will likely cut my body fat and muscle me up, and give me a tan...cant really lose :).

no advice from me but chat.

personally I just like wearing nut huggers in public :D

Crawl seems the most tiring. Go for it solid I guess.

It's something I only seem to want to do at the weekends when I relise the pool's full of kids pissing themselves!

I'm sure there has been this question before, so do a search for more detail.

Basically with swimming you can go balls out without the worry of overtraining, certainly joints, and if you build up you can do intervals every session without a problem.

A typical routine might start with a 10 min wam up. Mix up strokes, focus on form and gliding. Then ease into more of a stretch.

Then do say 10x 100m easy up, hard down 10 secs between intervals.

Then 10x 100m building up speed throught to a full on last 25. Then 1m between sets.

If you still have something in the tank do.

5x50 moderate up, balls out down.

Use breastroke for easy lengths.

Reduce no. of ints to accomadate your workrate within 45min

Spend 5 mins cooling down in the pool and stretching in or out of the pool.

Use this as a template, don't do the same workout every time.

Remember you can really push it in the pull, unlike running etc.

Thanks for the post.

Thanks for the post man. I swam on my high school swim team for 3 years. I am in ROTC in college now. The best swim workout would be for you to swim freestyle (i.e. arm over arm and flutter kick). Swim laps outside in a pool. Me and my friends swim at a lake. Keep posting hoss. :)
