I was wondering if this happens to you guys as well:

When I exercise a lot my sweat stinks of ammonia. It is "breath-taking" and I really feel bad about it. ESP because it also happens sometimes while dancing for 2-3 hours at clubs/concerts.
There is no way to hit on girls after that. Therfore, I do not dance that much anymore.

Here is more info:
1) It is mostly the back of my shirt that stinks.
2) I was having my blood checked to see if my kidneys or liver are fu*ked, but everything is fine.
3) I take a shower at least once daily + I change and wash my shirts after every workout/dance
4) Using disinfectants on my skin do not make things better.
5) The amount of protein or carbs I eat do not make any difference (same with amonut of drinking)

I understand that ammonia comes from urea which is degraded by normal bacteria of the skin. And urea comes from protein degradation.

Do you guys have any idea how to get rid of this smell????

Sorry, just read the info post and I realised I probably cant give any good advice. You sure it's comeing from this dietary source and not from the usual bacteria creating BO way?

Becasue then you might want to try shaving. Though that sounds a bit extreme to me. Tried covering it up with talk or spray?

Only other bit of advice is find someone that does chemistry and ask what you could put on yourself that would bond with ammonia and wont be harmfull to you? A horrific longshot but there may be a simple solution out there.

You essentially upped your VALUE in her eyes by showing her that, if she wants you, she has to at times do things that you like to do. You are SOMETHING after all. You are NOT FREE. If she wants to hang with you, it's going to cost her something — time, effort, money.

Thanks for your input.
I could imagine it is the bacteria that cause the BO. But a I said disinfecting my skin before workout does not help much (I guess because those bugs are everywhere and your skins gets "reinfected" seconds after disinfection.)

Yeah, I thought about rubbing some stuff on my back to bind it, but could not think of sth that works.

I smell BAD after workouts.

I'm not a doctor... blah blah... disclaimer.

Think of it this way: When you eat fat and carbs... You get water and carbon dioxide.

When you eat protein, it contains a LOT of nitrogen. One of the products of protein metabolism is NH3 or ammonia which is really toxic. Looks like you're excreting ammonia through your sweat.

It's probably not a bacteria. Because if it was, it would have to feed on proteins to produce ammonia smell. You don't excrete proteins with your sweat. If it were making proteins from your skin, you would've been able to seen it by now.

Are you eating a LOT of protein? Enough carbs and fats? If not, then maybe your kindney can't keep up.

Drink lots of water
Smelling bad when working out is normal
Check your kidneys

Cheers

I have been at the doctors, everything is fine with my health.

The Nh3 is actually detoxified in the liver to urea. When urea is excreted it can be changed back to NH3 by bacteria (they feed on your "dead" skin cells).

I do not mind smelling bad after a workout, because I shower afterwards. But as I said the same happens (sometimes) on the dancefloor, which is huge turnoff for me. Ammonia smells sth like cat-pee, which is not a good odor to appraoch girls. I can go clubbing without dancing, but it is less fun and less effective.

Thanks for your ideas anyways!

That's gotta be one hell of bacteria to feed on urine :D

Where did you hear about that?

Don't laugh.

Before you go to bed have a shower, then get a pot of live yoghurt and work it into your skin. Focus on armpits groin and feet.

In the morning shower it off. You can buy a genlte non soap shower wash by Sanex. It's called something like Derma Flora. Use that.

For a while it would also be a good idea to clip armpit and pube hair right down. if you are a very hairy bloke consider getting waxed.

Are you on a high protien diet?? Amonia is usually a byproduct that the body produces when you're on a high protien diet.

Do not be too easy. If you are too easy to get, she will not want you. If you are too easy to keep, she will lose interest in you. If you are too easy to control, she will not respect you.

Why don't you try it,send us a picture of yourself in yoghurt and tell us how much you paid on a new matress after you were released from dermatology clinic....:p

Seriously, I do not know where you got this idea from, but to a certain point I like the idea. You put new germ cultures on your skin and they might replace the old bugs that make the fuxking ammonia.

I am going to ask some female friends if they would prefer strawberry or peach yoghurt  ...but as I said you go first.

cheers

Look, it won't work if they lick it off, but what would you care.

Yeah, it's like the thrush infection thing.

Also I've been using that derma flora stuff, it's helped with spots on my back and a bit of dandruff. I was told no way can you clear all the bacteria through washing, the good flora thing is the next best thing.

Nothing to lose, and maybe help your prob for good.

According to google excessive protein intake and overtraining are known to be common sources of ammonia smell. Can't tell you of any scientific evidence, research for yourself. According to this study: Ergometric and psychological findings during overtraining: a long-term follow-up study in endurance athletes; Urhausen A, Gabriel HH, Weiler B, Kindermann W. ammonia production goes up during overtraining but I dont know if that has to do with it.

I myself had it when I trained for 2 hours non-stop.

Hey man I noticed this when I was 15 years old. i started working out to lose weight due to obesity. Its mostly chemicals and basiclly bad stuff leaving your body, such as poison. You know the stuff from air pollution, food, OTC or prescribed medication, alcohol & drugs (if you indulge). So analyze your enviroment and what you put in your body. Its almost a good thing to smell ammonia after or during working out. It lets you know your doing the right thing and getting the best out of your workout. As far as you smelling it whilre dancing, the same principle applies. Also ask women if it happens to them and you should get a yes, especially if she wears makeup.

Smooth666 have you been eating alot of meat or taking arginine / amino acid suppliments? Some of these suppliments cause ammonia( that will usualy help to give your muscles that burning feeling) to come out of your body ive heard some people actually have had sore eyes when this has happened.

At this point you probably have a woman (or multiple women) chasing you around, calling you all the time, wanting to be with you. So let's talk about how to KEEP a woman interested in you once you have her. This is BIG! There is nothing worse than getting dumped by a woman that you really, really like.
