this has prabobly been asked but id don't feel like serching....

as you do each set, do you raise the weight or lower it. I know i can bench 150 (12 reps) but i have to lower it to 130 to be able to do another 10-12 reps. do you guys start lower and go up with the waight or the other way around??

also my rutine starting today;

Tuesday-arms/shoulders
Thursday-back/lats
Friday-Chest/abs
Saturday-legs/power walking

I can't give you the exact name of the excercise cause i don't know......I just grab anything that seems to be working out that part of the body....

Don't agree with biceps and triceps on the same day, and if you can power walk after squatting then you're not squatting hard enough!

For me, I tend to do a warmup set or two (or more depending on how I feel and the exercise in question) and then a workset at my maximum weight, rest-paused to failure: depending again on how I feel, I'll either want to beat my last workout's exercise by 2-4 reps OR increase the weight by 2-5lbs and stay in the desired rep range for the exercise in question. But that's just me!

I don't see a point in lifting lower than your maximum! If you can do 150 for 12, then try 170 for six!

Also, if you just train 'by chance' every time you go into the gym you'll get nowhere.

I don't want to muddy the water, but whilst what warboss says is valid. It's also true you don't have to train to failure to gain.

The eastern block countries have done this to achieve great results. The real concept to grasp is PROGRESSION.

I have trained the HITT style balls out low sets and it works. I've also done (sceptically) 90%max 5x5 and sure enough, progression.

Basically, as in life, it's crazy to keep on doing the same thing and expecting different results. You are looking for progress.

Your arms are getting a workout Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. This is too much. Have a professional write up a program for you and show you around the gym. Don't bother with a split yet - you don't need to bother with a split until much further down the track. Half the guys here who are training with split programs are doing so unnecessarily.

No you don't have to train to failure - it's just the way I personally train! :)
