...hope this doesnt get posted 3x...having troubles...

here it is again...

Gentlemen,

I was thinking about buying the Anthony Ellis Membership but I think the information here would be sufficient.

Hope you are all well…I plan on starting a journal with the intention of packing on muscle (20lb goal)…currently I am 184 6’1 (24yr). I have been working out at the gym for a while so I am starting to develop some muscles…I drink way too much and am going to work on this…will document it in the journal as well.

Current Max:
Bench 140
Squat 155
Row115
Deadlift 135- I have bad form and hit my shins on the way down…working on it
Incline 115

…so for the choice of a workout schedule…I am thinking about Bill Starr’s 5x5

This is similar to Warboss Alex’s Look like a Spartan

The issue with this workout it seems that the first 4 weeks are building up to my max so I will be lifting light for 4 weeks…or I could skip ahead to the 4th week…

Does anyone have any input on a workout that could be better?

I appreciate any feedback fellas..I am eager to start my journal as I would like to develop a workout plan by Monday…

If you can spare $20, I would buy this and follow it:

http://www.flexcart.com/members/elitefts/default.asp?m=PD&pid=2976

Otherwise I would choose one of these, or any of the beginner routines from www.ironaddicts.com.

http://www.sosuave.net/forum/showthread.php?t=125444

and follow this diet:

http://www.sosuave.net/forum/showthread.php?t=134782

Keep all accessory work to a moderate intensity and try hard on the main exercises bench/squat/dead/press, but keep 1-2 reps short of failure.

Use ironaddicts.com for weightlifting info, it is one of the best sources on the net.

Squat as low as you can. The deadlifts should be above the squats by quite a bit.

Use the first few weeks to familiarize yourself with the weights and technique, make sure you are lifting smoothly and correctly.

You seem to have done a bit of reading and have your head on straight, any more questions just ask.

Good luck,

Quagmire

P.S.-The info here is superior to Anthony Ellis.

Quagmire,

Thank you for the reply....I downloaded the 531 manual and am going to read it tonight...my biggest hurdle I think will be the drinking...probably have thrown up 2x this week from drinking too much...I am not depressed or anything like that...I am just an alchy I suppose...my friends dont help much either...cant blame them though! Monday is going to be the start of my Journal...I will accomplish my goals.

take care man

Hah, drinking, something I am guilty off. It's probably held me back more than anything else.

I would definitely think about it though, throwing up two times in the same week is fuc*ing dodgy, and I'm guessing this isn't an isolated incident?

You aren't a professional powerlifter, but you have to find a balance between your social life and your goals in the gym, if you want to accomplish them.

And knowone should be throwing up on a regular basis, period. The more you drink, the more it will retract from your lifting.

I would definitely start taking zinc tablets, 30mg a day is a good amount. Anything except zinc oxide, check the label on the back. Zinc is really cheap which is great.

There are more supplements, but get started with the basics and then think about the rest. Zinc is crucial for test production though, which goes down the pan when you drink.

I agree, throwing up 2 times this week is shady. Not proud of if but it happened...just being honest. I dont do that on a consistent basis though...just had a hell of a week with summer starting
