I've been on 60mg a day the past 6 days, so far there are no noticable side effects except for mild headaches since I started taking it...my acne seems to be getting better and worse at the same time, if that makes any sense.

I'm just so tired of this acne sapping my confidence, I know I have a handsome face under my acne, hopefully accutane will take care it.

a friend of mine tried accutane..she got scars from it..she's still smoking hot and doesnt have acne anymore.

personally acne is not worth accutane unless you have severe acne causing scarring along with cysts.

people grow out of acne.

I was on it...i had chapped lips a lot of the time, and a bunch of scars left over (although i had a pretty severe case) It gets worse (if not really bad) in the beginning...happened to me, give it about a month. You will def notice a difference. Try not to pick...that will create even more scars. I understand 100% and i too believe i was very handsome lol...and by God i was. Blood tests were a pain...but in about 3 months i barely had any acne. Btw, in my case, i still get mild acne...bad luck i suppose cause i do everything to prevent it.

Good luck to you dude

yeah ive been on it a couple of weeks it gives you hella dry lips so constantly use a chap stick (not a cheapo one).

soon your face is probably gonna come up with really bad acne for a few days i felt like dying when it happened to me it really is awful.

but despite all that my face is hella clear now. I started on 40mg now im on 80.

I was on it too and it worked really well for me. The acne was almost completely gone in literally 3 weeks. However, the downsize is that my lips got horribly, disgustingly, painfully chapped the entire time I was on it. But that cleared up when I stopped taking it.

A few people i know still get chapped lips years after taking the medicine, i hope it don't happen to me.

I've nearly finished my course, i should have finished abotu 4 weeks ago but i got so annoyed with the chapped lips that i'd just take my accutane for 4 days then stop on friday or thursday for the weekend then my lips would recover a bit and it wouldn't be so bad or painful. I don't think you should do that but it worked for me i don't have acne anymore. Got about 3 days left.

I'm going to write a long reply since I feel strongly about this acne sh1t.

Same situation here- my face is quite good looking but it was covered so bad with acnes since I was in fourth grade- I didn't discover accutane until eighth grade. A promise for you- it Works. 100%.

You're lucky you get to take 60mg. I'm 70Kg (and when i was heavier- 80kg) but I could only take 20-40mg since I get major headaches and feel lethargic easily if I take 60mg, especially if I don't get enough sleep.

Due to the doc's worries about the side effects, it's taken me 3 years to finish accutane therapy, on and off.

I'm glad you're using accutane, cause I tried EVERYTHING before that and nothing worked. But some advice for you:

Vitamin E- don't know if your docs giving them, but now that my acne is gone what I'm worried about are the scars/dark spots. Last week, I was like, WTF? all the scars are getting DARKER. And then I remembered that the doc used to give some vitamin E and I took some and after around 4-5 days...they were MOSTLY GONE!!?

Don't change your soap- find a good one and stick with it. I've gotten allergic to that sh!t for many times already and finally stuck to Vichy's Normaderm- quite expensive. but well worth the price as it cleans real well, never irritates, never too dry.

Fruits- The doc said that food is one of the least influential factors for acne, but IMO, least doesn't mean trivial for us extreme acne victims. I told you I was on and off accutane; during the time i was off, I ate a sh1t load of fruits (and i mean... like... A LOT) every single day- you'd be surprised by how much it helps.

Change your pillowcase Very frequently- I still do. I'm terrified of the motherfvckers coming back.

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT TOUCH YOUR FACE- I was SHOCKED by how much this effected my face. By simply putting my chin on my hand for several minutes, or scratching a certain part of my face more on a particular day, I can develop acne in a day or two- a Lot. I thought it was a coincidence, but it's happened god-knows-how-many-times... it's real! the oil on your hand will fvck it all up.

For me, accutane started to take very noticeable effects after around a month. But the time can be drastically different for different people (a couple days...a couple months)

Don't give up--I was so shattered by acnes I gave up on my appearance and walked around looking like the ephors in 300. If you're like me, you'll throw about a thousand tantrums and possibly smash a mirror before you turn handsome XD, but I can't believe how hot I am now  sry for the narcissim.

Last thing- as redundant as it is- don't squeeze them like I did cause they'll blow up like landmines. I'm lucky my face recovers fast and I left only a few very shallow pits.

Oh- You're doc might be able to use the method of injecting this medication directly into the acnes with a syringe; they will disappear or at least lessen in size usually in less than 24 hours. Unfortunately, I have no idea what that thing is called.

Hope this helps... and since I hate these bastards more than I hate terrorism, global warming, and world hunger, I encourage, no, I DEMAND you to ask me for more advice

 definately.
As for getting worse- I got worse at the beginning (first month or two), and my skin condition sort of hovered up and down before gradually getting better--but it didn't make much of a difference cause my face was all covered with that STUFF anyway  Jesus--I was so ugly back then people stared at me. Now the chicks stare at me for a different reason.

ahhh...the times when I had so much fun playing "squeeze the pomegranate" every night.

Good choice on the accutane, I hope you did try other things beforehand though right? I'm on it since it's kinda my last resort...

But anyways, I'm on my 3rd month (gotta do 4) and am currently taking 60mg. First month was 20, then 40, now 60. I weigh about 155 lbs so my derm said we'll most likely be stopping after the 80mg.

Results? Abso-****ing-lutely! The first month or so, I was breaking out more than usual (common side-effect with accutane, expect), but then it began slowly clearing up. My forehead actually still gets a few breakouts, really annoying but hopefully they'll be terminated! Lol, after I'm done with the accutane... I can't wait for that! Next step will be treating the redness and the after-spots ugh!

Oneshot mentioned taking Vitamin E, but he doesn't say how much
A work buddy tipped me off about Vitamin E, and it's all I've needed. I would take the 400iu size, two or three times a day depending on the outbreak, maybe more. It's way better than any prescription meds I've used, and lots cheaper; no side effects at all.
The first time I began using it, I could actually feel my face begin to recover. It was strange, like a sense of relief.

Oops. Yeah- I take the 400iu size also, two capsules/day usually, sometimes three. I also find that drinking lots of water (however redundant it may sound) helps too. I mean, don't drink any artificial juices or soda or anything of the sort for a week or so, if it's a habit, it's not that hard to break--and just drown yourself in H2O before you go to sleep every night. It will limit the acne growth even further.

And yeah- listen to bluenorther's advice about Vitamin E

Last thing- Anyone have any good suggestions on eliminating the scars and dark spots? I find that they seem to get worse/better on different days--I haven't scratched or messed with my face for quite a long time but it seems to take forever for them to fade. Any tips?

More than half the people who go on Accutane don't have acne come back. It's possible your dosage was never high enough. What was your routine like?

Also, besides Vit E, what else can help with the after-marks and redness? That's really killing me and I'd look so ****ing great if it wasn't for that :(

I had a good experience with Accutane as well. It varies how fast acne will clear up on an individual, but I believe mine went away within a few weeks. It's been years since my one course of accutane and i really haven't had it flare up ever again. 1 or 2 pimples every once in a while, nothing like before.

My only side effect was chapped lips. Like everyone else said, really bad chapped lips. I have a suggestion though: use Aquaphor. It's not usually used as chapstick, but you'll find it with the lotions and stuff (it's an ointment) and it worked the best for me out of anything I tried.

Exactly what I use. My derm sends me home with that after every visit.
