As per advice in this forum, I'm now having the real oatmeal for breakfast, but I need help with ideas on how to make it at least... palatable.

Struggling with just cinnamon but I don't want to add in a lot of junk that'll defeat the purpose of it in the first place.

Any ideas?

Sweeten with honey, molasses, or sorghum. You can add peanut butter to make it a more filling meal. For health, you can also get a coffee grinder and some flax seed. Freshly ground flax is a good addition to many foods.

What is real oatmeal?

Generic crystal light from walmart or trueprotein's flavor packs I use to flavor oatmeal.

Try using green tea (or other flavor tea) instead of just hot water.

Add assorted fruit (berries, banana, apple slices, etc)

I like the bland taste of steel cut rolled oats, but adding honey and some of the above keeps it fresh occasionally.

What I meant by REAL oatmeal is oatmeal that isn't instant and comes in packets. CarlitosWay suggested I have oatmeal where the ingredients where: 100% Rolled Oats.

So, that's what I meant by REAL oatmeal.

I'd have steel cut rolled oats, but I hear the cooking time is about 35-40 minutes? But I do hear that they are much better as well?

I'm heading to the supermarket this weekend and picking up some bananas and apples to throw in there. I really want to try honey, but I'm worried that I'll end up using too much.

Why not use milk instead of water? Add some honey if you need to sweeten it further.

Did I just blow your mind? :)

Rolled oats are best to use. One meal that I have regularly:

- 2 cups rolled oats
- Skim milk (whatever quantity you want, depending on how runny/dry you like your oats)
- 1-2 tablespoons NATURAL peanut butter
- 1 scoop whey protein powder (I prefer chocolate, but vanilla goes ok as well)

- Put oats in a bowl, then put whey protein & mix with the oats.
- Pour in skim milk + mix
- Put in peanut butter + mix
- You can add more milk if this mixture is too sticky/dry

I add raisins and dried cranberries into mine. Tastes great and changes the texture a bit.

Reason why we arent adding honey, sugar, milk, and other crap is because IT IS NOT GOOD FOR YOU.

lmao

Show me evidence that honey and milk are bad for you. Both are natural unrefined foods that are good for your body, despite what you may have been told. I'd rather sweeten my foods with honey than any artificial sweetener with a host of possible side effects.

Sugar on the other hand is pretty bad. But everyone knows that.

I've been pretty much told to stay away from milk and dairy products as a whole. Taste aside, I'm pretty sure it's probably healthier to have water instead of milk, even if milk doesn't do "any wrong".

Although I do see your point that a little milk probably wouldn't hurt.
I think anything in a really small dose is never really a bad thing.

You realise there is quite a big difference between refined sugar and honey. The GI of sugar is way higher than that of honey. There is no comparison.

The fact that milk makes you look bloated is your problem buddy. Doesn't make me bloated at all and I drink over half a gallon per day. That differs wildly from person to person.

Just because you believe something doesn't make it so.

Yeah everything for the most part is purely individual. I went to a pizza buffet today and literally at like 13-15 pieces of pizza, some bread sticks+ other misc (healthy salad also lmao!)...stuff. Most people would pack on fat if they ate like me, yet I'm so active alll week with work and traiining around 5times a week it doesn't phase me!!!!

I say try something and if it doesn't work for you, just take it out later.

One of my favorite oatmeal recipes is as follows:

(make night before)
2 cups whole rolled oats
1 cup steel cut oats
1 tablespoon of raw honey
salt - check how much the steel cut oats call for for a cup and triple it
Cook until done

Then scramble a whole carton of eggs/egg beaters/combination-thereof and mix it in the oats you just made.

Store in tupperware, reheat as desired.

Freaking delicious.

Another of my other favorites is simply:

Raw oats
Milk
Blueberries

Don't cook it, but let the oats soak in the milk for a few minutes before eating.
