THIS DOESNT MEAN RESPOND TO A CALL WITH A TEXT, or TEXTING before you've interacted in any other way. if she calls, you call. Otherwise, call first. Now, moving on...

Seriously though, if a woman is comfortable texting and is comfortable responding to "text game" then you shouldn't force her to sit down on the phone. It's not showing any more masculinity on your part. Please. For younger girls, it just means you're old-fashioned and "not with it". If you can game her with texts, why take a longer path to the P?

If you don't know the female too well you should be a little more formal, but if its apparent that they consider it a valid channel of communication then text away. People here seem to see it as a puss-out vs. an actual phone call, which can be true, but another truth is that it is valid because people are busy these days and its FASTER.

Just keep it formal and mature. Seriously, folks, its the second decade of the 21st century. It's ok to text a lot. and add them on facebook.

examples of things that are ok to text:

- "nice to meet you too :)"
- "just got your text. im kind of busy/in class/in a meeting right now, but ill call you back later today"
- "Thats funny. Send me a pic of it!"
- "hey how did you do #2 on the homework?"
- "Good morning, you left your purple bra here"
- You get the idea. ANYTHING!

...just no beta male sh*t (see below) or anything that asks her to qualify you. If she doesn't respond to the homework question then shes just a bad classmate. It's on her.

examples of things you SHOULDN'T text:

- "hey it was nice meeting you..(blah blah blah)"
- "wanna hang out?"
- "I didn't see you at our party last night. Where were you?"
- "whats up?"
- "I like you"

Any input, fellas?

Texting is fine as long as it's not done in a wussy way. A lot of people (especially those over 25) are set in their no-texting ways, but I've been laid before while never ever actually calling the girl. I set up nearly all of my dates via text...I think as long as you're both young, it's perfectly ok.

I think texting is fine as a very casual way to communicate. I still think it's better to call when one wants to make or confirm plans.

quoted for emphasis. I always try to call when I'm setting up a date or whatever, and no conversations over text. but as a convenient way of contact it's fine.

i've never believed in these 'texting rules & laws' that some people in here adhere to. if i feel like texting/IM a girl to confirm plans or whatever i'll do that and if i feel like calling her i'll do that too. simple.

My only rule is dont ever use text for rapport. Better to keep the questions to a minimum and just say statements that will elicit a response. like "you would not belive what happened today" or if you cant think of anything interesting then instead of "hey whats up" something such as "hey honeybuns whats shakin?" is more playful.

any REAL player here has dozens upon dozens of flirty texts in his phone from chicks.....and this isn't up for discussion either.

Guys who NEVER text with chicks, don't HAVE any chicks.

Vis-a-vis seduction, rules are for noobs. I text all the time. Many young women these days don't like talking on the phone, and quite frankly I don't either.

There's really two ways of going about it that I can see:

1) You're "with it" and you understand that people just talk straight up through texts these days. OP hits the nail on the head -- totally applicable, especially to the younger people on the forum

2) You set a precedent. You're the kind of guy who keeps his phone calls short and his text messages minimal. This is how I do it because I just don't like talking on the phone or texting when the texting/talking really just leads to "meet me at xx at y o'clock." I've noticed that this more 'old school' take on it is sometimes misunderstood as you being cold, so this precedent needs to be established -- you're a different kind of guy and they need to somehow see that in advance, otherwise it can be taken the wrong way.

Either way, no problem.

Short is definitely key to texting. I've had some absolutely hilarious text exchanges where I jump to sexual conversations immediately, and if you can really make someone laugh with a text, you're made in the shade.

On the other hand there are millions of AFCs out there who spend hours in a text convo that could be clarified over the phone in minutes. Throw in the mass booty call texts (you know you've gotten some ;)), how much easier it is to ignore a text, and how women's damn nimble fingers can outpace ours any time, and it is clear why some DJs will never abandon the call.

I have noticed that first dates my friends initiate by text usually send them straight to the friend zone, while I always call for the first date, and have never had that issue. I think a certain rapport and sexuality already present is needed to initiate a first date by text, but for me, I feel it's the mark of an AFC. Anybody think otherwise?

Just to clarify I'm not talking about a "first call." Maybe you know this girl pretty well, or have already hooked-up, etc. I'm saying to initiate the first date. Whew, just saved a page of confusing back-and-forth.

It doesn't matter how good-looking you are, how romantic you are, how funny you are... or anything else. If she doesn't have something INVESTED in you and the relationship, preferably quite a LOT invested, she'll dump you, without even the slightest hesitation, as soon as someone a little more "interesting" comes along.

THIS

:D

I text but, I don't like it. I try to do it as little as possible. I see it as a necessary evil, especially with the younger girls.

My reasoning here.
